Anyone know if the EVO 08- 530 comes with an engine and pipe? What else do I need to get aside from servos?

Definitely want to see future posts on how this place is coming along, perhaps pictures once construction starts again.
Better start saving your pennies. A used car will set you back well over 1k new is over 2k and you will need all electronics. Check out FG Supply.com

Yeah, I am. Not spending too much right now. Just hoping this new job works out. If it does, Mimi will order me one, unless FGSupply has the lowest price.

But seriously, does the FG Evo 08-530 come with engine and pipe? Reason why I ask is because I want to gauge how much I need to save.

First of all, when you say 530mm, are you referring to a Medium chassis? or was it a typo? If you want the standard size car (Long Wheelbase, most common size car) the wheelbase is 535mm. The Medium wheelsabse is 515mm, which FG has released two new bodies for it, the BMW MZ4 and the Porsche 997.
So you need to make a decision weather you want the Medium or Long wheelbase. I know you are probably going to ask, What Chassis should I get???
Well, it depends on a few factors. Longer wheelbase will be more stable than the Medium and Short. Ohh yes, i forgot to mention that FG also has a Short Wheelbase (465mm) which you can use a Porsche 993, 996 bodies and I think the BMW Mini and if you are VERY LUCKY (one of my favorites) a BMW E30 M3.
ANyhow, going back to what ai was saying about the chassis. The Long wheelbase chassis has the mosnt bodies to choose from (if that is relevant to you) and it is the most common. Also, if you plan on running Sedans (4-doors) you will NOT be able to run a short wheelbase chassis because FG does not make a 4 door body for the short chassis. The Short and Medium chassis will however provide plenty of steering and be an advantage on tight turns. So you could do like me, get one of each!!!

If this is your first car, I would recommend the Long Wheelbase, its more stable, you can get many different bodies, including GT and Sedan, so that you can use that chassis in both classes if you want.

Also, if this is your first car, I would recommend looking for an used one on the web, you could get a good deal (specially right now, or at the beginning of the season) for a fraction of the price of a new one. A new car EVO FG 08 should run you close to the $4k and yes it should include, 23cc engine, pipe, everything except radio and servos. We have about two guys that picked used EVO 06 or 07 for a bit over $1k. Its up to you, its your money, but for your first car, I would buy used.

Let us know if you need more help. I am glad to be back here typing something, it was sad not being around here for a while! Lets hope everything goes well into the new year!!!!
Good luck.

Hey Luis,

Will pretty much told me the same thing, as well as Carlton. But I am glad you backed up what they told me.

When I said Evo 08-530, that is the long wheel base, according to the new catalog. The 08-510 is the medium chassis. The 08-465 is the short one. I guess it is their new designation?

But the Z4 is a long wheelbase body, according to the catalog. The 997 is the medium chassis one. However, when I saw a picture of the 997 medium chassis body, it looked way too weird. Like a stretched out Lexus with Porsche front and rear ends.

I really wanted the shorter wheelbase, but FG does not offer an EVO version of the short chassis. Just the long one. However, when I spoke with Will, he said that you can buy a short chassis as well as a fuel tank, and just swap the parts over to the shorter chassis and add the short chassis fuel tank. That sounds like a plan for me. But if you say otherwise, please by all means state your piece. I am gathering as much feedback as I can.

And the reason why I am going new, like with any other RC car, is because I want to get a feel of building a 5th scale car. Mainly because I want to know how to repair it if something breaks. You get what I'm saying? Like I don't like a "hand out" where a car is already built and if something breaks, I am SOL on how to fix it.

And yes, I got your PM Luis. I am kinda insulted you don't remember me. We met at Mimi's place. I asked you if you were getting into electrics. You said you were going to get the new Xray, while you were on the phone. Then on top of that, you were like "Man, I hadn't seen you in a long time." I remember you quite well, from my Hobby Works in Laurel days.

But yeah dude, hit me up. Add me to the mailing list as well for 301 Raceway. I am sure if you saw me again, you'll probably laugh and be like "Oh crap! Yeah I remember you!"

If you want to race the car competitively, you'll want to go with the long wheelbase car. It's a lot more stable, and there are a LOT of bodies available for it. I'd reccomend the Killam Corvette body to run in the GT class as it is by far and away--the most stable and has the highest downforce available. This class also allows the largest size rear wing--another bonus for the newer racer.
I bought the Evo 8 complete kit from VS Modelsport--and it came COMPLETE with motor--body--pipe etc. less any radio gear. I'm going with the Hitec setup of the Multiplex Rhino servo for steering and the high force digital servos for the brakes and throttle.
I'd guess you'll need to save approximately $3500 for the Evo 8 and radio gear. If you want wheels and tires for spares-- I'd put another $500 together-- I'd suggest going with "C" compound all the way around--unless your local drivers tell you something different for where you run. These are medium compound and will handle a 30 minute race without easily overheating.
I'm building my Evo this Saturday with the help of the master--Frank Killam--So I'll be able to answer more questions about the build after that. Actually--I'll try to do a "build" thread here---taking pictures etc.
FYI

That would be awesome, Tim. We should get heavy involvement like this for the 5th scale arena so that newcomers can see how awesome the build process is for these larger scale cars.

As far as the price, I already have most of the servos. I will be using the JR 9100HS(Throttle and Brakes) HV and 9100 HT (Steering) HVservos (High Voltage specifically for LiPo batteries) that have a LOT of kick plus PUNCH. I don't mind spending the money now, namely because it pays off well in the end.

As far as Radio gear, I have a Spektrum DX3R system and DX3S with the telemetry setup. I spent a lot of money on my electric car setup, but see how it is paying off in the end? I will be saving quite a bit of money, in my opinion, the more I spend up front.

My only question is this. If a small servo has enough punch for steering, how much weight does it need to move comfortably?

I'm not familiar with the DX3R, but you want to make sure that you can mix channel 2 and 3 to run the additional front brake servo. You may allready know this, but wanted to throw it out there. Go quarter scale on the steering servo, you'll save some coin, and a one servo setup would help troubleshooting steering issues vs 2 separate servos.

Harry,

FYI, you are correct.

There are now shortening the wheelbase.
I guess this is the production version of what Marcus Feldmann was testing at the Euros.

As far as the steering servo goes--the one I've seen MOST popular and is nearly bulletproof is the Multiplex Rhino--1/4 scale digital servo. It is imported by Hitec RCD--they own Multiplex now-- that's the recommended factory servo from FG.
FYI
Tim
PS-- you can buy Multiplex Rhino servos direct from most hobby shops here in US--- Hitec stocks them in SD> Calif.

I run the Hitec HS-5745MG spec'd @ 250oz/.15s
It'll take off a stray finger the steering linkage.
Multiplex is native to Germany, thus the catalog cars always have em.
