Thumbs up

Sounds good let us know.

Are you planning just to have a track? Or are you thinking hobby shop along with it?

DEF a Track and i want it to be as BIG as possible! Hopefully i can do like 100' x 36' so if i get just enough room for pits and that size track yes all i will have is a track! And a small lot of parts that people may need. But if i can get more at a reasonable price i will also have a shop. Or if i decide to make the track smaller. But in the long run if all goes well and the track takes off like i hope! Yes i will have a very large track (oval & road) AND a shop!

I was going to open a shop/track about a year ago and did a lot of research. The one thing that every racer I talked to said was #1 on their priority list concerning a track was pit space. No one wants to be crammed in like sardines. You have to account for growth of your racer base. Most said that a well stocked shop was #2 and track size was further down on the list. Try to have about 80 permanent pits with room to add at least 20-30 more with foldin tables and chairs. 1000 sq/ft is a good start for pit space. Electrical service is a big issue as well. Make sure your service can handle the power needs of 100+ racers. I have been to races where the power supply was weak and brown outs were common, who remembers the 2005 carpet nationals?????.

A 100x36 track is 3600 sq/ft. Add 1000 for pits and that leaves 400 for a shop if you get a 5000 sq/ft building. You should be ok with this but if possible go for a 6000 ft building to have some extra space for growth.

Remember you need ample parking as well.

Like I said before, PM me or email at tazz888@hotmail.com if you have any questions about what you should look for in a building or about opening the buisness in general.

Remebmer that the location your are talking about being in and the general lack of carpet tracks in the area means that you have the potential to draw big crowds easily and much sooner than you may anticipate. Be prepaired for the inevitable growth of your buisness. If you do it right you will prosper, do it wrong and you will be another statistic of a failed track/shop. We are all pulling for you and are here to help.

well i want at least a 60' x 36' so remember if i do get a 5000sq/ft building we could always make the track a little smaller to fit more people. I at first just wanna start. I cant start to big because if for some reason it doesent take off like i hope than i go broke quick! But if it does take off we could cram for a few weeks while i get a bigger place! Also this building i am looking at is HUGE pretty much. I still need to look inside to see how it is divided up but i belive that if i start with like 5000sq/ft and we have huge turn outs than i just grow in the same building! Which would be awsome. There is another building i am looking at that is up stairs but there is a walk in door due to a hill! but this place is 160' x 55' i belive (measured by paces). with a 160' x 40' of it all open! so we could do snow birds style there! Well let me look and see how much he wants and i hope it all works out! In the end with the track all i want to do is break even! If i make money i will be HAPPY! Now if alot of people want a shop thats where i would need to make money but i would ALWAYS match stormer prices (altho i couldent do stormer sale prices because they are sometimes lower than dealer prices!)

Thanks for all the support! T-Money

hey trevor...it's bill from rampage.
i really hope you're serious about this....1/18th scale is getting tired
don't forget about road course....i've got a feeling all these new F1s coming out is going to draw more new racers in

and ditto on the pit area...rather see even a 75' straight if it meant more pit space....touring car requires a lot of equipment even with lipo/brushless...and if you're running more than one class it gets bad when there's no space.

and don't forget the tamiya/TCS guys ...you might need to run 3 or 4 race nights

get going ...and keep us posted.

i completely agree with pit space size. But when i go to a track that is hving a large event. they usually limit your pit space to a 3' x 3' section (of table! you have a chair and walkway and such!) per class. So say you entered 3 classes you would get a 3' x 9' section. Yes its small but sometimes its what ya gotta do! I am an oval guy (as Bill knows when oval died i pretty much did to) and i am also a long straight guy and big turns. If i open my own track and only than will i try road course! I have done a little off road hear and there but its just for fun. For me theres more fun in the tweaking and testing of equipment than actually driving! Of course its always good to see it pay off on the track! Well i will keep you all posted on as to whats goin on.

remember that road course raers spend money also...it has to suited to both types of racing the 20 - 25 people i know who are looking for a new track to race at are all road course guys

what's the matter with turning right every once in a while ?

keep this thread going....let us know the progress trevor.

i really hope this is something that is going to happen for this season...really don't want to drive 3 1/2 hours to race.

if you're having a problem finding space in poughkeepsie....don't forget about kingston, newburgh, any of the surrounding areas.

problem with surrounding areas is i work 7-5 now and when were busy i work 7-6 so getting to the track in time for racing would be difficult. I do plan on hiring one person to run the shop/computer so that might work. Also as far as this happening for this season i have two things to say. Are all these guys all season only racers? I want to stay open year round! And also if it does happen for this season it will be a little late as it is a little late already. I will keep you all posted!

I think you need to stay within 10-15 minutes of 84 to entice people to travel to you track.

Non of the carpet tracks in the area have really managed a program through the summer. But, with the right facility and given the quality of the tracks i the area, carpet my stay strong in the summer.

not to be too deeply in your business, but i'm curious about something, how much do you plan to pay for rent ?
you don't have to answer if you don't want to, or you can pm me if you'd care to.....just wondering how serious you are.
as far as transpnoder systems you asked about in an earlier post...there's actually 2 or 3 in the for sale forum right now in the $2,000.00 range with 20 transponders.
as far as year round racing is concerned i think you need to look at the successfull single venue tracks...like RCHR....you need to plan trophy events....points series with prizes(additional sign up fees would support that )

you can't just hope it happens...it'll take some work and ingenuity.....but others have made it work.
as far as road course goes....there are actually six different classes to run...without breaking it up into spec and mod...you could run 6 to 8 week series of one class....it'll take 6 months to go thru a whole cycle

six classes:
touring car
rcgt (any tourer with scaleish body and hpi x-pattern tires)
world gt (1/10th scale pan car)
1/12th scale
F1
tamiya (TCS rules)
and there are plenty of ways to split that up to make it last longer
