What are your intentions with it? Are you planning to race competitively? Clubs Racing only? Parking lot bashing? This is not as easy as buying one of the small scales, there's a HUGE price difference and your intentions with the car have a lot to do with what you want...

I've tried them all and they're all good. What really matters is the support and accessibility to parts in your area. Also helps if there are others close by to share tips about the specific make. Very hard to make a car run well when you're the only one with that particular make.
If you look at the race results of the top drivers they're results are similar despite switching makes from time to time.
I race an RS5 and love it but for support and parts availability the FG is second to none in North America.
I assume your on LI, we race on unprepared parking lots unless we are traveling. (although we are working on a permanent track...) Your best bet would be something like an FG Comp car (CX7). The extra flex in the chassis lets it hook up better on the temporary tracks. I have an FG EVO 7 and the extra stiffness hurts it a bit. I had noticed my TKT 99EL had better traction than my 99E, the EL's chassis is not as stiff...
The 2nd though is what do you want to spend??? This isn't a 10th scale car... Plus the car will be with you for at least 5 years if not more...
Do you need an EVO with Hydraulic brakes and all the carbon fiber, absolutely not.... A Sportsline set up right can be just as competitive in the right hands as an EVO...

A permanent track on L.I. please keep me advised
As far as a budget it is not a factor when buying a car.
That's not to sound cocky. I just will not short cut on something and then find out I should have purchased it in the begining. And for the most part, if you lay out the money for something as a package, most of the time you will save on the long run.

A FG Comp car can become an EVO... Most of the parts will also fit on the Sportsline, the geometry is pretty much the same between the 3 cars...
I have over 7K into my car... You still sure money isn't an option??? lol...
You want top of the line... Get the new Evo 8 coming out with Magura 2 Hydro's, and either an Alro or Oddie engine.... There really isn't much difference between the Evo 7 and Evo 8, I have the viscous diff and the 8 is coming with a gear locker. I think the 8 is also coming with fiber rotors and steel brake linings...

Get yourself a CX7 (comp car) with your choice of Tuning or Hydraulics... The only other car you are going to find in the states is the RS5 or the Contrast neo and parts for them are sketchy...
My buddy I travel with has an FG F1... He's looking to get a sedan also...

I can't agree more than like vtl1180ny said, it all depends what you want to do with it!!!
I for one have been around 1/10 and 1/8 nitro cars for a while now, but I didn't much about 1/5 scale racing!!!!, Once I saw them racing on the 301 raceway track (http://www.301raceway.com), that was all I needed to sell all my 1/10 and 1/8 stuff and found a used FG EVO 02 which was in decent conditions, I then saw a race of 1/5 scale F1 and got hooked as well and bought a new FG sportline and I am upgrading that to be more competitive!!!
As soon as it get a bit warmer, I will hit the track with both my cars!!!!
LRR
Listen to Luis there... He went out and bought an older comp car and held his own against those of us with Evo's....
Do you race your F1? There's a few of us who travel to 301 in MD from LI...
We have a decent group on Sunday mornings running 5th scale anywhere from the chinese knockoffs to Evo's... Plus we have the guy's who are the new Contrast distributor who come out from Brooklyn and NJ occasionally... Look like we may have some Guys traveling from the Bronx also...
Luis, if you read this before I answer on the other place, I'll PM you later today... lol...
I am the President of LIMRA, any questions you have, ask... Scott E is a 5th scale F1 racer and the VP/5th scale director, I can put you in touch with him also. (he thinks computers are evil.. lol..)

I agree with Alan. The cx-7 is a great car to run. The extra carbon-fiber that the EVO has will actually hurt you on anything less than a perfectly prepped race track. I have a modified Comp car that runs extremely well. I have yet to run it on a race track, but the only problem I would have on a prepped surface is TOO much traction. I would have to add some CF and stiffen up the suspension which really isn't a problem. The last thing you want is to try to find traction. Sometimes it's hard to come by. Go with the cx-7 and it'll run great out of the box, and if you plan on traveling with us, some springs and a few CF goodies and you'll run with the best of them.
Why don't all you hot shots from Strong Island and The Planet Brooklyn roll up to Hamilton, Ontario for a couple of big races. (70+ attendees from all Canada and Midwest U.S. in three scales). Big races coming up in late-May (RC Pro Can/Am Challenge) and mid-June (Canadian Nationals).
