The intention is to let the user choose many configurations.
Since I'm using a battery tray from the Losi JRSX type R the footprint is the standard 138mm X 45mm. The cool thing is that the top deck is adjustable from 36mm to 46mm by using spacers.
Now you could use 2, 2s off the shelf packs or a high capacity 3s pack or a 5250mah 4s or even a 5250mah 5s 35c pack from Maxamps. (the smallest packs I've found but very expensive as high as $299)
I just checked with Danny from SMC and he confirmed that they are now shipping a 4s 5400mah 40c pack that will fit perfectly. ($185 street price)

I'm going to duplicate the battery tray out of 7075 so that it will be a structural member of the chassis.

Thanks Solara,
I'm keeping record of all the parts I'm making so if I can get enough financial backing, maybe I can get some kits built.
Kyosho...are you listening?

It's 5mm, just like the stock chassis.
I was tempted to make it thinner but that would reduce the vertical clearance for the battery pack plus the front bulkheads have a 5mm overhang where the lower arms mount.

Ah gotcha, I guess I'm too used to 3mm chassis from nitro and electric TC

Keep up the GREAT work!

Is that the original chassis that has been modified or a new aluminum chassis? If new why didn't you use a CF chassis? Running electric there is no real need to stick with aluminum.

I would think a slab of 5mm thick carbon would be really, really, expensive.

It might be but wouldn't have to be 5mm thick to maintain the same rigidity. 3mm would do fine with 2mm spacers where the bulkheads and stuff bolt on that need the 5mm thickness.

I would think aluminum would be cheaper and easier to machine/modify for a prototype. For a final production version, CF would be very nice .

Then again, when you go from an aluminum chassis to a CF chassis, you are moving your COG up.

Interesting questions guys.
I did look into going with CF but for the proto, it made more sense to use the 7075 I already had.
I would like to do CF once the design is final.
