That would be a dream! Lipo and Brushless have spoiled me!! So when i had to keep track of NiCads and a handout brushed motor the other weekend i almost forgot what to do!

It appears we will be doing the lipo switch. I am for it just for the fact that it will allow for longer run times and put it more in the hands of the driver. I am new to this class and did not get a chance to run with the old NiCd batteries. I think this will be a good thing except for the fact that it drives prices up a bit. It would be nice to mandate a spec esc too.
Not sure if you've used Lipo before but you may only have to charge the battery twice for the race....
Once the night before and once after the second run.
We're using Lipos with the VTA and RCGT classes and i can run about 15-20 minutes on a 4000mah battery. One of the best things to happen to RC if you ask me.

Ask about Lipo chargers and you'll get a million answers...
I'm using a MRC 989 SuperBrain... i know some Lipo manufacturers don't recommend the MRC but i've had ZERO issues with it. But i also need to charge NiCad and NiMH so it works out good for me.
I'd ask around and search the boards here. I've looked at some of the Duratrax Onyx series of chargers and they look pretty good too for the price.
You can find some good stuff on the For Sale sections of these boards too.

Does everyone running lipo only use one battery for a night of racing? I suppose the legends wont be as hard on equipment and will definitely keep costs down if I only need to purchase one good battery.
As I am just building my legend car, I have not run a lipo in it. I do however run them in my 18R. I ran one pack in two classes. Just charged after each heat. Was great. No more round cells for me. Will try a 1 cell lipo in my Legend when it is built.
At our local tracks we run Legends with two configurations. The stock spec motor, spec battery, spec tires, and the basic kit out of the box.
We also allow the use of 1 cell Lipo batts and/or 13.5 Novak brushless. We have found that geared right the cars are the same speed no matter which combo you run. One track is very short (3.4 second laps) high banked carpet and the other a much bigger (don't have lap times) flat carpet oval.
Run one batt and recharge it, but it takes very little out of a SMC 4000 MAH Lipo to run a 5 minute heat or race.
We also run mini sliders and late models with Mamba 4200 brushless and/or lipos. Some with the Losi motor are actually faster but the Mamba and brushless are so much less trouble, more consistent, and last much longer.
Good info! Thanks for the post BlackMini. That is exactly why legends appeals to me. It would be nice to get a big money race together for Legends. Is there a possibility that there would be a good show if the purse was right?

The switch to the LiPo will get you longer run time granted. But you will be loosing over 4000 rpm, which IMO results in 4 minutes of boredom. As it is on that track now with NiCads I am running wide open anyway. Spec motors out of the box they can vary as much as 1500 rpm from motor to motor, new.
Winning in this class will be the same as before. Car set-up will be far more critical than in the past. A higher degree of mainenance will be required. Those fellows that can tune one of those spec motor will have the advantage. Driver's will just stand there with WOT and running the car around in circles.
