old nova mega sx-21 needle settings
 

last year i bought a brand new serpent vector that was built as a shelf queen. it has a nova mega sx-21, and im sure the mid range needle wasnt set correctly. i found some generic novarossi needle settings online, (3 1/2 H, 5 1/2 L) and they seemed to be close, however after firing the engine it wouldnt idle, rpm would keep creeping up. i had a look at the midrange needle, it was cranked all the way in. after turning it to about flush i fired it again and it seemed alright. ive been breaking it in at that, however id like to find out what its supposed to be set at.

so does anyone know the factory settings for this carb, specifically the mid rangeneedle?

All needles flush is a bit of a starting point.

If the LSN has 2 needles, the large brass one need to set flush (equal with the housing) and let it stay there.Sometimes the other LSN need to go in 1 turn from flush.

On the other hand, I think it is wise to get someone known with this because if you can fire it up but do not know how to tune it will never go right because a factory setting is also just a starting point. And if the engine was brandnew you have to start a break in process.

i realize factory needle settings are a starting point, and generally very rich. i have been running nitro for 13 years now, so i know whats going on. i know mid range needles are for fine tuning of the mid range only, and most of the time you do not touch them. because you can throw your tuning way out of wack very easily. hence why im wanting to know what the factory mid range needle setting is.

also, flush isnt always the answer either. generally, rtr engines are now designed that way for ease of use, however it shouldnt be assumed thats the way it is.
