Maybe others have had different experiences with the new idm engine but I bought one and will tell my story. My first IDM .12 3port grenaded within the first 1.5 gallons. My hobby shop owner felt terrible and replaced it with a brand new IDM 3 port (i didnt expect that kind of service) I ran the new one in again and it had the same crappy tunability and would never generate any power unless it was on the verge of blowing a plug. More shims, less shims, different pipes, every plug maker and combo and 10 quality people tuning it couldnt get that engine to settle down. 4 of the guys at one of the tracks I race at have had similar experiences with the idm. On the other hand I have only been impressed with the ns and rr series engines. (which is strange because of how similar they are) My IDM is a backup in my pit box that I hope I never have to use again. Ill put my old OS tr in before the IDM.
These are my sour grapes but I expect a 500 $ engine to be worth 500$ not worth throwing at a wall.

New Engines
I'm just wondering how much more HP they can get out of these .12's??? They are already maxed. To me an engine that's reliable, easy to tune and makes time is awesome!!! The rest is for the master tuners to get that extra .005 hp. New strides in materials that will increase longevity and tunability are what matter most to me. Mfr's also need to bring down the price of these engines to a more affordable level that more people will take up our sport. I'm glad OS and afew other mfr's are trying to accomplish this. I'm afraid for our hobby. $300.00 for a .12??? $400.00+ for modified's?? Okay.....this was just some miscellaneous ramblings.

Internet RC is not the distributor for REX any longer.

LL5 had a great mid and topend result, bottom bit slower compared to my microcast NSR5,I had it run A last sunday and gouch it was fuel saver compared to d rest..did sparring too wit LS5,as bottom i already prepare wit higher ratio gearing so it is OK,comes to mid and top, outrun d LS5..
basically bigger track goes to LL5, technical wit sharp turns wil go to LS5,but in d mains,I would still prefer LL5..not yet tried d tuned..

I have been testing the engine for about 3 weeks now (N12LL) Rex Version. The long stroke is supposed t have more bottom end, but I find the short stroke engines have more bottom end. The N12LL seems to get better fuel consumption than the last generation of engines, but it seems to me that it is not as powerfull as the Mugen X12 or the RER3. I ran the engine stock and modified, and it seems to start pulling hard in the midrange and top end more than off the line. Different pipes netted similar results. I still need more testing time before I can say I like this engien better than the modified RER3 or X12.

Which version for a shorter/longer track? I am confused about the shorter/longer stroke comparison.

I do like the crankcase being beveled off near the crankshaft bearing, nice touch.
