Default OS Speed Tuned Conrod Freeplay

Hi all, I just run in my OS Speed Tuned engine for about 3/4 gallon.

Engine was running fine and temp was ard 90 Deg C.

I opened the back crankcase to check the conrod freeplay.

With piston at TDC, i can see that there's quite a bit of freeplay between
the conrod and the crankshaft. Everything looks clean and nice except
that i'm not comfortable with the freeplay. Is it normal for this engine?
I have so many engine and this is the first time i encountered this. Moreover
I understand this engine is hardcoated black.

Has anyone noticed this.. Thanks

Thinking the exact same thing mate. I am sure it will be up there at a fraction of the cost.

Hi,

don't worry. All OS engines has more initial play than other engines like for example Novarossi ones. You will see that the play will remain the same for a long time, just check it.

Regards,
Jernej

Rotational parts always like that. Novarossi has more freeplay just after break-in.

Nitro if you are really concerned about it, then pull don the motor and have a look inside the bottom bushing of the rod and if there is any wear or score marks. then you might have ran it to lean lean, but as for free play, every motor i have owned, Nova, Sirio and OS all rods had some free play, like beebone said, all rotational parts will wear, there is no bearing in the bushing to prevent that, so you will get slop in the rods.
good luck

Rotate the flywheel time to time and hear any metal noise, its time to renew the conrod.

Yes, so far only just under 2ltrs of fuel has been put through and still not race tuned yet Joe running on the rich side and the motor was pumping out good power. Great club day motor for the money. I will be using the version 2 and the speed be comparing next week at interstate titles coming which will go for 4 days. Will be doing allot of testing on the free practice day. Will let you know how it indexes me

I just ran mine in series race this past weekend. From my experience this is a really good club engine. Very easy to tune and it didn't give me any troubles the whole weekend. I kept the temps around 240 degrees F running 25% nitro and it would easily make 5 minutes on a tank. However don't expect it to run on the straight with the 9 port nova's but it definitely holds it own in the infield and is possibly even better.

All in all I'm very happy with this engine and it is exactly what I expected for the price.
