RB V12 5 port turbo problems
My friend of mine recently purchased a V12 5 port. After breaking in the motor, he proceeded to finish the break in on the track. He was having a hell of a time trying to get the motor running. He was running still very rich, but he said that after 2-3 minutes the power just seemed to disappear. He also said that it sounded like the motor was leaning out. He was running Byron's 30% with stock .3 shim and #7 plug. He kept blowing plugs and he had also told me that the plugs would still be shiny. I think he went through three of them. He gave up and I told him to run my V12 5 port turbo instead. He was still having problems with that motor so he called it quits for the day. Anyways...later on that night I was spinning the crank by hand without the glow plug in and noticed that there was no compression. He had at the most 1 qt of fuel through it. I also noticed that the turbo head looked very suspicious. It didn't have the nice smooth surface, but looked very rough, and browned, almost to the point of pitting. It didnt' have the classic pitting that I'm used to seeing but more of just very rough. So any thoughts, suggestions, criticisms?
Thanks,
JB

Sounds like detonation, add head shims .1mm minimum.

I think factory defect.
