S = stiff, due to the new crankshaft which is 11.9mm diameter.......

When are Novarossi and all the other engine manufacturers going to show the real HP figures for an engine? 1.68HP??? The max anybody has got from a .12 engine is 1.15 and that was the CRF WASP.

If I bought a car from BMW and it said it was 500Hp and I put it on a rolling rd and it came out as 280BHP I think i would take the car back and get my money back. BMW would also face a legal bill

So where on earth do this figures come from? Is there some sort of disclaimer on the box in microscopic print stating "HP figure is for 0.0001sec duration when using nitroglyserine as fuel at 500 dec C just before engine explodes"

They might as well say the thing has a 1,000,000 HP and does a zillion RPM as it means about the same.

I'm not even sure a micro engine REALLY make 1 HP.

Hi Madbeats... thanks for the reply.

However, still don't ring a bell... it shows Plus 12-5SCT and not 5ST. And it costs US$16 more than the Plus 12-5CT which should be on ceramics...

Dynomometer test show only the CRF wasp making more than 1 HP (1.15) out of all the standard engines. A BRB set made 1.01 HP and the Murnan Moded motors show around 1.05 HP

Mostly the Out of the Box motors will run from 0.6 to 0.9 HP and that inludes the Novas

Cheers

They will keep on doing so until there is an industry standard for measuring HP.

What Nitrodyne Systems does is apply SAE correction factors to their measurements, that take into account weather conditions (Air temp, humidity, altitude, etc,etc.). Also same Nitro % on all engines, and they tell you which pipe was used on the test.

Also you would have to shim all engines accordingly to their best on whatever nitro % is used, and to compare there should a be a run with defined pipe for all engines, and another run with the best pipe of the manufacturer. Also, all manufacturers should use same Dyno.

In the mean time Manufacturers should state the method used to get those raw and ridicoulos numbers.

I Think that the best way to get real numbers would be if main governing organizations like EFRA, ROAR, IFMAR, demand that manufacturers must submit spec sheets for homologation, with a defined method of measurement. Just like pipes and bodies....if they don't...bye bye baby.

it makes me wonder how we saw 4 different engine brands making the WC main final............
the only 1.15hp engine wasn't any faster than the others (fast in laptime, please don't tell me that the top speed at the end of the straight was achieved by the CRF engine because I've read the post informing that).........

every manufacturer has its parameter for estimate power and rpm..........if the nitro dyne systems become a standard then the measuring process should have a standard mode as well..........most engine were tested with a X pipe/header and with 30% nitro fuel...........

every engine has an exhaust system properly designed for best performance............and every .12engine is designed to run with 16%nitro.......IMO these are 2 important parameter, not to mention a room with controlled temp, humidity and pressure..........

I also would prefer an engine being dyno'ed installed on a car an then get the power on the driven wheels.........

Yep. I used a MT12 crank in a CX12 because it had better timing. Works perfectly well with the stock rod and piston.
