HI Guys,

I just installed my D5 in last week to a v1rr. I have been running it in, I've probably gone through a bout 1 litre. I was using a nova turbo hot long body plug and found that it would flame out when it was running in the top end. I'm using 15% nitro it's got a bit of oil in it. The temperature was in the 20C's and running on .3 shim. I changed the plug to a cold one and it didn't flame out in the top end, idle was a bit high so adjusted the idle screw.
The engine is pretty good, but still running it in. I can feel some friction still at TDC when i take the plug out. Engine is running around 190-218C.

Do I have to run it in for around 2litres or can i start to lean it out a bit when the friction is not there at TDC?

I've ordered a D3 p/s but couldn't find the conrod for a sts .12 only for the .21 at rc-mushroom. Will the .21 conrod fit in the D5? I've got a spare conrod that I bought with the engine and I was going to put it in after break in.. So i will have to buy a new rod when i start to use the D3 p/s

Thanks
Jason.

Thanks,

If there is only *slight* friction I would look at start leaning..

Email Rc-Mushroom - They used to list the .12 conrod but seem to have missed it when they reloaded their engine parts into the website. The .21 conrod is massive and will not fit.

Dear Jason,

Please more patience if you want it durable. 218F is ok for air temp 68F.

Thanks, Dino.

Is that the Nova C6TC? I am running 30% nitro so would the C7TC be better?

If it easy flame out,use hotter plug. Colder plug more durable.

Cool D21B

Hi to all

I just ordered a D21B for my Hyper 7.
Should I use the same type I am currently using? (3 shoe stock)

I also use Byron 25%. What plug do you recommend?
I have access to OS5,OS8, SH 5,6.

Thanks in advance.

Default Break In Procedures

Is it okay to break in an STS engine at WOT after it reaches operating temperatures? I've read this link about how WOT is beneficial for breaking in an engine intially.

The Link

3 shoe type has better low end. And you need to cut the shoe for light weight. The shoe and spring always die fast,so you need to stock some of them. Also 5x10 bearing.

If the weather is cold, use hot plug. If the weather is higher than 20C,use middle plug. When the weather is higher than 30C,you can try cold plug. Hotter plug more stable and easy to adjust. With Byron25% you can try 0.3mm head shim first. If it eat your plug, then put on 0.1mm extra shim.

WOT is a faster way to break in engine. But if your fuel has not enough lubricity,it may damage your crankpin and conrod. I will only use WOT way on the first tank. This way can fully clean your engine. Then just run on the track slowly and start to lean it each tank.

You can try this first;
top end needle 4 turns out
low end needle 4 turns out
mid range needle flat with the mount

I will lean the top end a bit and rich the low end to 5 turns after break-in.
