if your doing high volume and need less hassle then a breakin bench, in the car is much better and quicker though.

I normally get about 80% done on the bench and then tranfer the engine to the car for last two tanks.

but, say using the murnan method, breaking in the car, will be fsater? as stated above? i would think the stand would put less strss on conrod producing logevity of parts, but if in car hampers a FASTER motor, in the car it is!!

I use the bench. I heat the engine with a heat gun to 220deg, fire it up and run it a 1/4 to 1/2 throttle for a full 1/2 gallon with out stopping at 220deg (i made a custom 1/2 gallon fuel cell). This establishes a perfect piston sleeve match. Then I put it in the car and start to lean it out and run it. I have never had engines "come to life" as much as they do with other methods compared to this method.

The run-in methode can not say how the engine will be. Most populair methodes are based on the same principle: rich and full throttle. Because the tolerances no engine is the same and results the same with the same run-in methode.

Just use what you think is the best and you will be satisfied.

Don't you want to heat cycle it at all in between tanks?
I just read this and it sounds dangerous haha, but is it okay for the piston/sleeve/conrod/wristpin?
I read L. Collari uses this method..........but ya' know...engines to these top drivers are a penny a bag.

dead thread but anyway

no use for an air filter on the Hudy Break-in Bench? From the looks of the bench it doesn't look like it will fit an air filter at all... where's the safety from debris small particles?

I snag a pair of the old lady's stockings. Cut a small portion then place it over the carb intake. Use a rubber band to secure it. douche it with a little air filter oil. Not the best but it's the only thing I have found that fits.

Pass you soon...

I would not use this for normal running. I only use this while using a break-in bench
