Need a Novarossi .12 Engine I.D. Check...

Can anyone identify these older Novarossi .12s for me? They appear to be the same motors, with one an SG crank and one a standard crank.

Any guesses? I am not positive, but I don't think that either are turbos, but I'm not positive.

Vague, I know, but any help is appreciated.

They appear to be:
2002-3 Novarossi RS12S3(3 port) or RS12T5S1 (5 port). They came in SG or standard shafts. The carb retaining nut was small. That was the id mark for me.
Either way they are all really good, strong and Fast motors. R/C car action said in April 03issue that the RS12T5S1 was the most powerful small block at that time 1.62 hp. If that is what you have (and it appears to be) then you have two very FAST and Strong motors. I still have 3 of them!

Hope it helps!

Massively. Thank you!

I hope to know if they are turbos or not later today. Thaks for helping me narrow it down. I just picked that whole lot up for next to nothing, and I'd like to rebuild at least one of them with a new sleeve/piston/rod.

We'll see if I can get some more info on them, too.

Update on the motors... one of them has "S3" engraved on the head, the other head is blank. The blank head has a standard non-turbo plug, the other head style is not known.

I guess I really won't know what they are until I have them in my hands and can take them apart. I guess one doesn't hold compression well at TDC and one needs a bearing. Should be fun to rebuild, anyway.

:D

You have the normal CS12 and a RS12S3. The CS12 was ok. Nothing more. The RS12S3 is a good basic motor. That is the one with the "S" on the head. The modern equivelent is the NS12S3 or now NS12p. Both are out of production. You can still get parts.

Cool, I appreciate the information. The RS12S3 for me is perfect, as it's a dirt oval motor. A bazillion horsepower non needed. ;)

But for $80, you can't go wrong with that package deal. :D

Dirt oval sounds good! I have my NS12S3 in my Jammin CRT.5! Works great !

Good luck with your motors!
