Uriah, I am runing an x12 now, and love it. It is a great engine. In doing so reseach my next engine will be your modified x12. My question is what guys think about josh cyruls wot break in method - do you recomend it? Thier is a thread on it the nitro engine zone, and also info at www.cefx.net.
The theory seems to make sense, but the idea is a scary one. has anyone ever tried it? I would like to get anyones comments on the best break-in methods for these engines, Thanks

Break in

In reference to the WOT break-in I have used it with the same success as the idle method. I think the most important thing is to have the engine rich and getting some temperature into the engine in the beginning. I think the WOT method can be safer, due to the super rich setting required. If you let the engine sit and idle at a setting too lean it can be a very short lived engine.

The first thing I do is rev the engine lightly until it is warm. Then establish a rich idle and let the engine idle for a tank of fuel, then let it cool. Then I put it on the track at a very rich setting for about 15 minutes, let the engine cool. From there on I lean the engine gradually with each tank of fuel until maximum power is reached. Should be around 6-8 more tanks before full power. Some engines will require a longer time to fully break in.

I like Cyrul's method.....It has a predetermined sequence that any idiot can follow with predictable results each time.

Other methods always seem to leave people wondering if their motor's are ready to race, and just how much you can squeeze on it the first few races.

What's up guys. Long time Bobby. That is a potent combo you will have in the RRR+mod Sirio. See you in Lakeland. email me uem11@yahoo.com

Chance, the setup I used at the concrete track with banked turns is very different. I don't have it exactly figured out yet. What I do know is that a 63mm 37 shore will last about 5 tanks of fuel and it is gone on the left side, so you must rotate tires every run. I used 5 degrees of rear camber, 2 deg of rear toe-in. I am thinking of using 45 shore tires on the left side and 42 on the right side. The track is smaller than it looks in the pics. With 8 cars in one heat there will be some hellish crashes, so bring extra parts and tires. Due to the banking there is only one or 2 turns when you are not WOT even with 1/8th scale. Here is a pic of the track.
