pros & cons of aluminium piston liners in engines
#3
I am told, that it is more difficult to get the chrome to adhere to the aluminum. So it is more likely that an aac sleave will start to flake the chrome off.
Theory is, that the alum liner will expand and contract at same rate as piston & crankcase. Making it hold a tune better throughout the operating temp range. Weight is down too.

When Sirio came out with their Al. sleeve engines, a lot of people had problems with the sleeves breacking prematurely, the same thing happend when Novarossi came out with their 421p Al sleeve engines. Someone on the forum mentioned that the problem was that the sleeve would get loose on the case and vibrate, causing it to break.
