Glad to have TNS thread again!
Neal I have a TNS modified Picco .21 EMX WC with around 3 1/2 gallons (change the conrod at 3 gallons mark) Because of the heat in Miami I installed on my IGT2 with an EMX GT head since the first day running with Bones Brew 30/8 and a P6TC glow plug, Nova 9886/41032 manifold. The engine has a screaming top end with a very good low end (as you can see I'm using a very short manifold) but properly geared it's able to accelerate the heavy IGT2 w/o any hiccups. I always tune by the sound and behavior of the engine but the other day after running the engine for around 6 tanks with 90F outside temp with an almost perfect tuning a friend of mine put a temp gun on the head and what was my surprise that it was reading just 200F, the engine was not rich at all and plenty of power if I leaned just a couple of hours more the engine will bog. After that I've tested the temp a couple times more in different days and is always the same, around just 200F. Is this normal for this engine to run on the cold side?

And thats why people should tune from performance not a temp gun temp isnt always accurate

Happy you are back Neil. I didn't see it on your site, but are you still pinching sleeves?

If I was God of teh Interwebz I'd go around and delete every stupid tuning guide that tells you to tune your engine to run at <insert random temp>°F or to run a 1mm idle gap or whatever else nonsense people write.

The performance and sound of an engine will always dictate which way you need to turn the needles. It's really that simple.

<end rant>

myself I do recommend a 0.5 mm starting point for idle gap.......after tuning hundreds of engines for people I have come to notice that idle gap is the #1 cause of tuning issues and its always the same deal, huge idle gap causing symptoms that seem like a air leak LOL ( how many thousands of engines have been sealed with silicone needlessly LOL ) so by recommending a 0.5 mm gap we have a closer to proper starting point work from.....especially so when tuning a short needle carb

It got derailed by drama and then got pulled because it was deemed advertising by a vendor even though there is at least 3 other engine builders in the same section. The timing of it is very suspicious which leads me to believe he got snitched on. Hopefully this one will stay on topic.
