I used to run the said engine in buggy with a 41021/9901.. a 2096 would tame the bottom end which may or may not be to your liking, I got used to and liked the bottom end snap the combination had and run times were pretty good
What is it going in and what are you seeking?
What have you ran before?

Yes they did switch to 3.50mm balls from 3.96mm balls and adjusted the races , I have seen a few more failures but nothing that you would be able to classify as "garbage/junk"

"Yes they did switch to 3.50mm balls from 3.96mm balls"
And the same thing happened to OS with the Vz-b (blue head), they had a run of them with the small balls and those also failed prematurely! I had one of those engines, and after one gallon of fuel the bearings were all gritty and nasty to the touch!
After I replaced those bearings with the big balls bearings that they shipped with the Ninja JX21 at the same sort of period in time, I had no problems and the engine ran fine.
So I can only conclude that when it comes to engine bearings, the size of your balls really does count!

I will say the bearings with 3.96mm balls stayed smooth for quite sometime

I just installed the tlr re12 on my two sons p5s and man it totally smoothed out the engine. Still has plenty of power. And they both got 10m run times no problem. They where running 086 pipe and 2013 pipe. But both made the p5 like A light switch. Now in my truggy I am still running the 2058 for the extra grunt.
But if I was in a buggy I would be running the re12 also. Great pipe for the money.

Joking aside, I can see the "small balls bearings" seem to have something like 13 balls in them, and the big balls bearings seem to have something like 9. Maybe I counted them wrong. But clearly this has a large bearing on the lifespan of the bearing.
I was shopping for some aftermarket rear ceramic bearings for the p5xlt, and I found quite a few different brands have got the 13-ball bearings, obviously I would not trust those farther than I could throw them. I went and ordered some 9-ball ones after carefully counting the balls on the various bearings on offer.
So when people are shopping for bearings, count the balls! IF there are more balls, that's bad. Be weary of the wrong number of balls!

Trying to break in mine today, seem to be having trouble. Can someone please tell me if this is a normal "break in pain". Runs fine on the box, I warm it up with a competition heat btw. Soon as I put the buggy on the ground and roll on the throttle almost half way. The engine dies out. Trying the bible break in method. Please help, other engines I've broken in never did this.
