I wouldn't bother investing to much in a temp gun. Get something fairly inexpensive to use as reference. There is a huge difference between a rich and lean bog.

Default Temps

If you tune with temps you can blow a small fortune on engines! LOL!

For that price I'd buy a new engine. There is NO reason to have a super accurate temp gun when you are not supposed to tune by temp anyway.

I agree having a temp gun is a necessity to make sure you're not overheating, so a good gun is the HPI one on amain.

Exergen is the only one worth having. I own a Raytek and it isn't bad but it's not a Exergen. It's definitely worth having in your tool box. It has many uses and a very important part in your toolbox.

Unless everyone here is sending their temp gun off for certification every several months, chances are they are all several degrees off.

Save for buying some cheap eBay gun, they'll all get you close enough to give you an idea.

I've been using a $10 turnigy....it's been tested alongside a few others (including the one that our local fast guy uses) and it's within 2-3 degrees at 200F.

Again, not to tune by temps, but more to see when my comp heat has warmed up my engine enough, or to see if I went WAY too high or too low on gearing my electrics.
