Motor With Best Runtime?
Hey guys,
Looking to possibly purchase a new motor in the near future. I was curious on what some of y'all guys were running and the approximate runtime. I'm getting around 7 minutes from my old Ninja, and I was hoping to at least get around 10. These are 1/8th scale race motors I'm questioning.

Runtime is 100% dependent on the driver. Some engines that are supposed to get 29 minutes a tank realistically get 7-8ish with throttle happy drivers. Pipe, Tune, Location, Driving Style are all factors. If you are getting 7 from a Ninja, I seriously doubt you'll get 10 minutes from any other engine.

Yes a driver and setup makes a huge difference but not all motor are created equal . I've been running Clockworks racing motor their very good motor for performance truggy 11-12 mins Buggy 10-11 minutes my mills are fairly new I'm expected more run time as I burn more fuel.

I am pretty throttle heavy and I was able to squeak out 11 minutes on a 2011 7 port Orion engine. With my Cody King I can usually get between 9 and 10 but it is pushing it at times, and I am running the 2058 orion pipe as well. With my Nvision engine running a 2013 I can get 9 minutes pretty easily. If you are only getting 7 minutes check your tune, you should get an easy 8 minutes if the tank is full, you might also get a fuel cooler, they add a few seconds and even a big fuel filter and make sure your fuel line is long enough this can add a few seconds to each tank, but with 7 minutes I would say your engine is weak or not tuned correctly, I have a friend with an old ninja and he is getting 9 minutes and he pits at 8 just to make sure. I know this weekend I will be doing a lot of testing on my Nvision and Cody king trying to figure out what engine I want to run come race day at the end of the month

Track is also something that needs to be considered. Obviously larger more wide open tracks are going to consume more fuel. I get 10 minutes + at Fear Farm here in AZ so I really don't worry about getting 10 anywhere else. I'm not sure I have seen any Truggy's get 10 on that track.

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I know tune can play a huge factor with runtime, but I'm more curious on what motors are giving spectacular runtime along with an overall great performing motor. 7 min is a rough estimate for my ninja. It flamed the other week dead empty at around 7:45 at my local track. Truthfully it could be tuned a little more aggressive which I plan to try this coming weekend. Although, being in the hobby for 10+ years my dad and I have had many of motors run over 7 mins.

Most engines will get 9-10 minutes if you drive/tune/etc them right. Pick whichever one you like.

Didn't mean to derail your thread, my apologies.. Just meant that in the hands of Sportsman, Open or even some lower Pro drivers, all engines will get similar mileage, so listening to what a sponsored or fanboy driver is pushing is kinda pointless. There are a few who will give you a real response, but those are hard to come by anymore.

True though
I love my CRE Bonito in truggy. Great all around engine, smooth but lots of tractable power. Run time with the Werks 2058 pipe has been awesome for me, I usually get around 11:30, but range from 10:30 to 13:30 depending on track conditions and outside temps. I pretty much always pit over 10 minutes. Sweet engine.

I am running OS speed engines and the truggy almost always pits at 10 mins. I usually clock 11:30 on a tank of hard driving. The buggy I can usually go 10 but sometimes it won't. The buggy is much harder to go 10 in. A couple weeks ago I passed 1st place who had a huge 20-25 second lead because I stayed consistent and only pitted 1x in the 20 min main. At the end of the race I literally had 2-3 drops come out of the tank, prob would not have made another lap. But I squeaked in with 1 pit stop. Turn your expo down on the throttle servo, that helps and turn your endpoint back, that will gain some mileage too. But I agree it's all driver.

Ok, so we time our nitro cars for fuel usage right? Why do we go by distance driven on 1/1 cars? Doesn't make sense to me. The better you get at driving means you cover more distance. Theoretically your time should decrease with the extra distance covered. If an expert driver is getting 2 or 3 more laps than a sportsman, why should he be able to get better time?

usually the faster the driver is, the less runtime they get........ the higher the runtime the driver gets the slower the driver is..... A faster driver not only covers more distance, he also covers that distance at a higher rate of speed.....2 things which will use more fuel.......
I had a good chuckle earlier this week.....
I had a customer call me telling me his CRE Bonito was barely making 10 till dry in truggy....I had to laugh as the fellow TQ'd and won the race...but he was more concerned that his Bonito couldn't do a 10 minutes pitstop then he was with actually winning the race...........
