Default ARO VS RUST

So, i've just had a engine show some rust on its crank and rear bearing race,

the fuel i am using is byrons 25% 11%oil.

the engine i have has a silicone? insert in the crank and i think i may need to use ARO?

some guys here use Auto trans fluid, but am unsure if thats ok for the crank insert.

Any petroleum distillate product is unsafe for silicone filled cranks , i would HIGHLY advise against it

I have said it over and over , when using byrons just dump fuel out of tank at end of day , DO NOT RUN ENGINE OUT OF FUEL/LUBRICATION!

This will leave a copious amount of byrons proprietary lube pkg in the engine , no rust will occur happy engine happy engine owner

A great oil to use for after run oil is castor ,nuff said

Auto trans fluid is a great rust inihibitor. It is also highly detergent. It is not good though for Filled cranks. It will make it swell and come loose in time.

Default Storage

I have been using mineral oil from the drug store for long term storage and even after one of my engines sat for a year it was still like new inside. The only problem with it is it will ruin the glowplug if you don't run some fuel through the engine to flush it out before starting.

Default One thing

If you have had rust develop on the bearings and crank it would be a good idea to take it apart and clean it really well. I like to buff the crank with a wire dremel wheel, the carbon brush wheel works really good, and blast it really good with air and oil it with castor like Monty said. I tried it after he recommended it and it works really good. I also like the Nova assembly oil. Soak the bearings really good in the case with denatured and blast it, then put oil on them heavy, corrosion x works good too, and let it set for a day or two then go back and spin them and clean them again and reoil. If they are still ok it will spin smooth with no grittiness. Don't be afraid to remove the backplate and oil inside the engine heavier than you would think if you plan on not using it for a while.
