im pretty sure he is running a 23 in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oj7O9YArYtg

IMO, for SC8 i would go with the 23 for the little more low end grunt, the top is about the same, the 23 may have more.

I think if the .23 is cheaper, it's a no-brainer. Get it. You could even run an 18T clutch bell. It will be very, very fast.

Just do a good break-in. Wrap head in alu foil, prop a hair-drier at a slight angle for ten minutes or so on top of the head, so that it gets up to about 200F. You're gonna' need to do that for the first gallon or so, before every start..

you will need to heat each side of the block to put less strain on the engine/rod... i would do this with any engine.

+1.

Get a cheapo heat gun also, a lot faster than a hair dryer.

Metal is a very good heat conductor...
After 10 mins that case will be heat soaked on all sides. Look at the dedicated engine heaters...they heat up the coolinghead...but the piston and sleeve are not at the head, they sit substantially lower in the case. The heat still travels to the case tho because metal conducts heat so well

I didn't mean heat the head from the side. I just meant put it at a slight angle so the hairdrier doesn't fry - so the heat goes down to the plug, but if it's at a slight angle the air can get out too.. I wrap the head in alu foil, and prop the drier on top of the head.. After ten minutes or so I've had a temp-read of 280..(OK, maybe 15 minutes.. Still, prob wasn't so hot down in the case..), but normally it'll be around 200ish..

for the SC8, i would go for the 23. but either one will be fine. the 23 makes some power, its a blend of a 21 and 28. you can get more feedback and help on the Alpha topic if you'd like even more info.

If you go with Alpha : S852 / A532 / A352 coupled with a 2081

Also a very good engine, Werks B5 with a 2013/2058, that will rip youre SC8

I posted my video of my Sc8 with an Argus (SC8), running a 17T CB. I bet, with the Alpha .23(which btw is supposed to rev nicely...), you could run an 18T CB and be even faster..

If I didn't already have too many engines, the Alpha .23 would be very much at the top of my list for the SC8... But then again the A852 is meant to be a monster...

Man.. See?.. All good.. Argus, Alpha A852 or S852 or .23... All good..

Questions??

Hey guys!!

Ok so I could very easily order a alpha on line but I'm trying to support my locial hobby shop. It's a mom and pop store.

I called and tried to see if he had an alpha .21 or 23. He had neither but he does have an Orion .21 and he said its an alpha based motor. Do you guys know anything about orion?? If you do could you please give me some feed back on what you guys think.. thanks all.
