well, another day for the track, we'll be at Revelation Raceway this Weekend trying out more of the New Axial's for truggies.......
if anyone like to see Videos let us know and we'll bring some stuff out there to Video tape.
nothing but Testing and running under Race conditions
with "Regular joe Racers"
this way can get an idea of how they "Really Work"
hope this can help as well....
like they say a Video's worth a "Billion words and Expressions"

Some guys are particular about there engines and seal them up. I sealed mine up after I had heat issues thinking it was an air leak...but it didn't make a difference. If you wanna be on the safe side, seal up the crank case cover and maybe a bead around the carb and carb lock. Tight checking the screws is always good too..

well..???
i know some do and some do not...???
it sure doesnt Hurt.....sometimes in most motors a "Tiny" bit is all that is needed if any? around the "Pinch Bolt"
the "Seals" on this motor like many of the new motors of today are pretty good....
most "leaks" are from the Carb, most in part when someone re-postions the cab but doesnt make sure it is "Firmly" pushed down
doesnt take much, just push fimly on the carb just enough so the O-Ring is seated well, not "Crushed" everywhere else on all of mine i havent had any problems...
but again it wont "Hurt" and it sometimes can give a good feeling of Security.....

ok here are some more hope everyone Enjoys !!!!

one is with Truggy,(was still Fresh LOL) and the other one
is in a Buggy,
Buggy one of his first times racing "Nitro" and he's Stoked !!!
loves it !!
on his we helped him break it in it's now almost at the one gallon mark and just starting to come around....still pretty Rich !!!
on his he is running a RGX Header with a JP-2 Pipe
and Byrons 30% w/9% oil mix.
head shim is at .48
and a Med type plug for the main
i believe he was running a O'Donnel 97T
and we had to tone his car down so we went 2-carbon shoes with Black springs and 2 alloy shoes with Green springs on his Losi.
he tried 4 alloy with green springs and said it felt like it had no Bottom.but after we showed him the first vids in "Practice" you could see wasnt bottom end was lacking, but "Too Much" once we got the "Power To The Ground" was almost over-shooting everything

oh and someone already asked but you did not go 10 minutes?
well in truck i did not need to? was only a 15min race and figured come in Half way? and it was pretty Rich it's still breaking in this one is at "one Gallon"
i have 3 motors back to back so if something happens to one? that i will have a back up "Race Ready"

my Friend in Buggy is was Super Fresh...LOL was at almost one Gallon, and it's just starting to come around !! but it's pretty quick! and it's still rich, so i had him come in early he's doing 8.5 in practice
but better safe than sorry......
new motor and first time in Nitro,....

you know i get so many emails from so many people, many questions are very Interesting, some seem to have the Potential to unlock the universe !!!
never had a dull one,
and only "Stupid Question" is the one "Never Asked"

but i have posted seveal "Courious Questions" and set them as i know some would like to ask? but do not so i do,for those people.
it's funny everyone busts my chops....LOL
but in all the years i do this it just gets better !!!

some of the Questions have gone to Engine Modifiers, ....
i do Engine mods too...
been in it since 91' did not race till later....LOL
i do not usually like to mod motors? there not really needed?
although no one that "Knows" WILL Argue this
as they say "ignorance is Bliss"
besides i am a custom Automotive painter...LOL
been in that since 79' and i get people telling me how to paint a car !!!......LOL

did planes and other aspects of R/C before this....
but picked up a few things Along the way....
i wont drop any Names, since i dont have the "TIME"(hint)
but makes me think "HOUSTON we Have a Problem"
(Apolo 13 "Hint")
why is it these people really RAG on other motors...????
sometimes i think it is a "Insecurity Complex"
maybe a Narcissistic Idealisum....????
as it is funny to see there postings...LOL
I do this!, but i can do this !!!! but mine will do this !!!
but MINE can RULE THE WORLD.....(evil Laugh)

ok, but where they in the "Worlds".....?????
yea, they can go fast? but is it good...????

let's see some basic numbers on motors......
there are "Thousands" of motors maybe 5 guys that mod? and maybe a few Hundred members here?? maybe more??
and how many "THOUSANDS or R/C racers"....???
and thousands more that have no idea of Forums? or just do not want to deal with the "Drama".....LOL
so take those that will "Beleive anything they read"...
you have a few people that can really screw things up?
one guy tells me "Well Axial hasnt made a Proven motor yet"
well they must be doing something right? they make money?
and enough to put out a line of motors....?????
and Just Barely released the 21RR-1.....??????....
as Ron from Werks he can tell you those Molds to make castings Are not Cheap !!!!as well Ron is another Straight forward guy !!
tells it like it is...!!!!!

and of course we have a few Favorates, like Nova Motors ,O.S. Motors, and Picco Motors all good !!! i can even Acknoledge this !!!LOL
and there are some really good Taiwan based motors...????
nothing wrong with that...????
but never try and convice these guys trying to sell there Modifications in a Taiwan Motor !!!!!......
HOLY COW !!! it just might be GOOD !!!!!
then your get the Senitor Weiner Syndrome !!!!!

in there own words through the Threads there "Garbage",Trash, not worth it the list goes on and on......

now i did some running of some (now 26) different types of motors
to find what is a good thing for the average "Joe-Racer"
we did some ranges,
$200.00 and Under
$250.00-300.00
$350.00 - $450.00
and "Modified"
all the motors had about 3 gallons through them......
i figured? i have money why not....???
and to be honest,we found there was several motors that under $200.00 just out shined almost all motors....????
i know we have this Conception that if it "COST More" then it Must be the best?
be the same as Comparing my NSX to my Wifes Ferrai Boxer?
doesnt make my NSX better because it's Mine...???
(oddly she like her Mini-Van Yikes!...LOL) besides it carries more, can do more from it,and no one tries to always "Scratch Our Cars"
as a custom Automotive painter i have done allot of touch ups on those cars !!!
so, with R/C motors we come to find
very Aggressive points of Views? 99.999999% very Unwarented....
i make a point,
say i go into a Hardware store? the owner likes to push "Millwalkee Drills" but i am in the market for a "Makita Drill"
but the owner tries to really push a "Millwalkee Drill"...????
doesnt it make sence to help the customer make a better choice in the "Choice they Have Made" instead of trying to push there own Ideals......???????
why tell the customer this is garbage or this is no good?
American parts,Italian parts,Russian parts...all made in Taiwan...LOL
i just had to use that from a movie....LOL

same with the Axial motor, is it the best...????
no, no motor is the best? it is what you make of it....
myself i am Unbiased....i do however like the Axial motors...
i have not "Tried the .28 or .32 series" so i could never make a professional "Opinion" on them....? or would try...
what i can say is i have tried and used the Axial .21RR-1 and they "Work"
other motors in this Catagory that are really good are
and even though this being a "Axial Thread"
shows what we will do to help !!!!
Go GX-5R
Alpha S852
Werks B5
Precirotate Pr21C
STS D21B
and the Axial .21RR-1
these we found are pretty good in "Truck"
the only one we found to be "Overkill" was the B5 in a Buggy....
but all these motors are around 200.00 with Cupons or some places with Discounts, can find for even less.....
many Comment on the Axial being too highly priced...???
i have seen it in my "Local Hobby Shops" SELLING out the door for
$191.86 (this is with tax!)
now some have seen the video's with us running them
i run "Everything" but if i have something it's "Inexpensive"
"Not Cheap" and it works...??? why Fix it....?????
in Buggies we found almost anything "Works" !!!!
the Axial's seem to really LIKE BUGGIES !!!!
and 99.999999999% of R/C racers like to Guage there cars by how fast they go???
(hey it is fun !!....LOL)
so for "Fun" we drop them in the buggies and run against cars with Various Motors.....
had no problems with the O.S. Speeds....($450.00+)
had longer legs than the Bullet motors....($415.00)
and outshined all the Modified motors...( i even had my Doubts?)
never to say those motors are not good !!!
"Except One" this guy in Redlands California probally one of the best there ever is....has the "Knowledge" and "Experiance"
and is Inexpensive.... he did a mod on a motor that was Unbelieveable! got killer Milage, ran strong !! and at my "Age" i am still learing things in life !! but showed me was so simple was almost in Disbelief !!!!
will i mod the Axial's...??? no it's not needed?
my other Friend that did mods he said the same....
tiny stuff here and there that anyone could do,but nothing anyone couldnt do...

it's just that you dont need to spend $400.00+ dollars for a good motor.....
if you have the money and that is what "You Want"
there is Absolutly nothing wrong with that....???
it's what makes the "World Great"
but many can not get over the "Pissing Contest Syndrome"
i say let'em buy what they like??
it's like Pushing a Religion...??? are you NUTZ !!!!

and odd part.....there Taiwan based !!!!!!......(OMG Run for the Hills!)
dont get me wrong? hey Nova's are good motors O.S. Motors are good, in fact all the motors are good !!!
but if i can have fun ,Club Race, keep up with just about any mod motor, and spend half as much for something?
doesnt it make sence???
i have money, but if i can buy a piston/sleeve/conrod for $75.00 instead of $175.00 ......and last about the same...
funny thing you get one or 2 motors that break, out of how many thousands...?????
and suddenly the Engine Mod guys are all over it because there "Taiwan based".....like there so bad it's not even funny..???

ok, so why does a 100,000 Top Fuel Dragster motor Blow Up !!!!!!!
because it IS a Mechanical Device.....
just like a "R/C Motor"
it CAN Happen......i have seen brand New $450.00+ O.S. motors Blow Up! Orion Motors Blow up! various Mod motors go!
some 15 different manufacture motors go !!
another example? my Friend had a "Brand New" Nova 21-4C Launch a Rear Bearing !!! just last week !!! it happens? he was lucky enough to where nothing was Destroyed....
this does not mean they were "Junk"....??????..no...
sure it is Dissapointing when it happens to "You"
but it Happens !!!!!
i had 2 STS motors go back to back...?? and one going on it's 7th year??..i mean Really...????
as i traveled around the World back in the days when i was in Metal Touring band, for everytime i got in a Jet? if i thought about it? i never get in one? with how many of thousands of flights everyday..?????
i stand a better chance of getting Zapped by Lightning
on a sunny day?
i go Against the grain so i am not liked sometimes...???
i get it all the time....LOL
but i am Honest? i sure try? just because i may tell someone i do not like them? it sure does not mean that person is a bad person???
but i can "Respect them"
same for the motors, so if there that bad? then "prove it" dont just Say it?
or Hide behind the screen and PM me and tell me off...LOL
do it to my face i always enjoy a good Conversation....as well as very open minded.....

so about the motor?
well it has a Modified Crank "Balanced" Drilled and Epoxied...nice plus.
modified ported Sleeve already done up !!!
made from the same Materials as other Sleeves? unless things have changed on a "Molecular LeveL" only seen in the likes of the Space Program at NASA?
and a Piston well like new motors of today they have more "Silica" which would account for the motors nowdays taking just a bit longer to break in....but made from a singular "Billet"
so they have the "Potential"

WOW! It seems your posts, full of sinceless meandering babbling,
are getting longer and longer. Are you alright man ? Are you on
any meds ? If so, have you been taking them as prescribed ?
I know quite a few older auto painters and can somewhat
understand now why the industry has switched to less volitle
paint solvents. Bad for the brain, huh ?

Default Cheap in the UK

Hi All this is my first post on rctech...so go easy.

Well this engine is available cheaply through ebay to the UK now. I picked it up for less than 100 approx $155.

I'm looking forward to the break in and will be using a UK fuel "optifuel" its 9% super lite klotz oil so I may blend an extra 1-2% castor for break in. I bought this engine because on paper it is like nothing out there at the moment. It has a seriously long stroke, the liner work looks excellent and the crank is specced with similar to really high end engines. I didn't realize that the piston is dished which is a pleasant surprise thanks for the pic, I would have liked some timing figures for the engine but couldn't find anything before my purchase. This is my first turbo button engine which I thought should give a bigger tuning window but from the sounds of it doesn't in this engine!!!. It will be going in a hong nor X2crt so if it pushes that tank round a track then its gotta be ok. I have previously run .28s but decided on a 21 for the fuel economy. I'd like to thank blade1 for being so informative and persuading me to make the purchase.

I'll add my experiences with the engine to the forum as I'm not a club racer but I do run an astroturfed track in the UK that is open to the public for free, we are the only track of its kind in the uk. So I can give a slightly different perspective on things. With the price here in the UK being roughly what we'd pay for a rtr / sport engine I can only guess that many units will be sold.

Cheers

Default still wondering about the pipe?

I did some testing this past weekend with various pipes on the .21rr and here are my findings... Blade's findings are very close to mine. Not that they are better or worse findings. I just thought others would like to see some symetry to the outcome of the tests we do. Also, I'm at altitude (denver) so some may want to know how the motor fairs in competition.

Setup: xray xb8ec (buggy), .21rr-1, odonnell 97t plug, byrons 30/9, asscendency 4shoe clutch. (2carbon, 2 alum. Soft springs),various pipes/headers

Well, my first setup was the 053 and 41021 header. Great mileage (9.5mins) but runs a little warm for my liking. When you punch it, it immediately throws monster power down but then the power band bogs down and then has to build up again. probably why it's getting so hot. It just won't clear out enough to get that linear feel.

Next, Nova 2084 with 41021 header. Wow!! Not as good runtime as the 053 but great power. The bottom-mid is so smooth.. There was nothing that I couldn't walk away from.. I had to run it hot to get any sort of decent performance/mileage though. Came off at 275-280 I would say I probably got 8mins max with that setup. I was apprehensive to lean out the low end anymore because I didn't want to lean bog as it went below the 1/3 (til empty) mark. Which did happen before I put in under a live loop...

Final, werks 2013 setup. Perfect...so far. This pipe gives it pretty good top end and great bottom-mid.... It just screams! I had plenty of power whenever I needed it. Bottom was perfect. I like to blip around corners and that style of driving works well for me with this pipe/header. Instant, smooth power. Mileage was pretty good. 9+ mins. Motor temps are nice and low (for me) in the 240-255 range. The ol' spit test proves this with a 3-4sec burn off on the button. It held a consistent tune because the temps stayed in a manageable range. It just plain worked for me. And if you haven't heard, the 2013 has one of the meanest sounds! It's got a poppy mid note that peirces the air. When you rip by on the straight, everyone turns there head to see where that wicked sound is coming from.

I heard comments like, "what motor is that? and a reply from someone standing by..., that's that new axial motor... Really?! That things rips!"

I'm not this new found nitro racer that is suprised a budget motor actually keeps up with the competition. I'm a Nova guy that couldn't afford a new nova this season...Instead of rebuilding my +4, I decided to get one of these 21rr's. With a past running Nova's, this motor compares; stubborn, long break in that requires serious attention to temps. I don't think this is a newbie motor...To properly break in and tune this motor for performance and reliability, I feel you need to have some experience and if you run Nova's, you'll quickly understand this fine tuned mil. If you're new and you still understand how to properly tune this motor, you're a step ahead of the game....

What's next? I'm curious how much fuel I can burn through this mil. I'm at 1.5 gals and I can turn this motor over by hand (by the flywheel). We shall see!

Anyone got any video in a buggy yet?
