The carb settings on all my reds engines are pretty close to flush for both the high end low needles. And when temperature changes ,very little adjustments are needed to get a race tune on them. I just love how easy they are to tune. And power is amazing. On my R7 and R5 in buggy and truggy I use 14 tooth bells as well.

Default Ask: reds r5r piston replacement

Asking the size and replacement for reds r5r engine
Hi guys sorry if I put in the wrong thread
I just get an used serpent cobra with reds r5r engine but without piston, sleeve and con rod.
Can you advise me wich low budget replacement for this?
Since im from Indonesia and if looking for replacement with $ is too expensive for me to buy via ebay. I look online and found some chinese piston sleeve & conrod.
But the question is what size for reds piston sleeve?
Note i also have rb f11 used engine from this trade but without backplate bit with complete piston set, any idea what is the right size for back plate also?

Thank you

Anyone remember factory needle settings for the hex carb? My perfect running and idling r7 went to hell and had me chasing a tune all over the place for 2 races before I found a tear in my dust boot.

Now I’m so freakin far off I’ve gotta reset and retune idle and low speed but can’t remember. Is it 1mm or .6 mm idle gap and is the lsn around flush?

when I reset mine, I just went to flush for both idle screw is about .5. All I did was put both to flush, get got it running and raised the idle a tad and then leaned out from there, when idle was to high just lowered it back.

Thanks man. Can’t believe I did that lol. Close to 20 years I’ve been playing with toy cars and somehow missed the most obvious reason for a motor losing its idle out of nowhere.

Default Glowplug Compatibility?

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question about compatibility between the OS P3/P4 plugs and R5R engine. Coming from an onroad background, having driven a Picco engine, I believe I remember that either the OS plug or Novarossi plug did not have the right angle at the taper of the plug and causes sealing issues... I am in need of a few plugs and no one carries the Reds line up here, so I am SOL unless the OS plugs will fit correctly? I do not want to ruin the seal or be stuck running the OS plugs, I love this engine as is and want to keep some longevity in it after I replace the Conrod over winter.

TIA!
Colin

Yep. P3/P4 OS plugs work. REDS has their own version as well called TS3/TS4. which are the same as the OS ones.

Can I run the r5t in my 1/8 Losi 4.0. I'm hearing different things. Some local racers say it was made for buggy or truggy. Others say no. The website says it's for both. Any info would be great
