I have several guys running the CRF engine...here is the setup that works well on these engines

HSN flush, or slightly inside of flush
LSN slightly outside flush ( .5 mm )
Picco turbo plugs only !!!!!! OS do not work as well no matter what anyone says
.20 mm total head shims/30% fuel ( stock is .30 MM )
086 pipe

I modify and sell dozens of Picco engines and leaks are extremely common on these engines.... from the main body leaking, to the needles leaking, including the idle screw...to seal the needles apply a thin layer of Permatex High temp thread sealant to the threads of all 3 needles..... These Picco's are extremely sensitive to vacum leaks, and if any leakage is happening the engines will be a nightmare to tune.......

Another question is what clutch are you running ? whatever you do , do not use a Fiorini clutch with these engines, it will cause a bad low end bog, as will a dragging clutch......
I agree with the Vario Clutch, I had lots of problems, but it was only certain motors that did not like it. I was a nightmare until I figured it out.

I got the Factory settings from Orion and they have it totally different from your settings, do you thik it is because of the shims.

I am gonna seal the carb and try the picco plugs. If it doesn't help, I will try the other item listed. I am running the AE pipe, stock AE clutch 3 x 1.0 springs and 30% sidewinder.

Thanks for your help, I plan on running more Orions if I can get this figured out, but I do not want to do too much so I can hopefully track down the issue and isolate it. I only ran it one race day so far. So I do not consider this a big deal yet. All the info is very helpful and I will keep working down your list if the problem persists.

their factory setting is way off....it would be extremely lean on the low end the way they recomend and the engine would flame out constantly....try my settings, its the same setting you would use on any picco big block, its almost universal........ 2035 sucks on these engines, if that is what your running your shooting the engine in the foot, it completely kills the top end, a 086 will work many times better, just a $50.00 Dynamite pipe is king.....

another note is after you set the LSN to .5 outside of flush, and the HSN .5 inside of flush, then re-adjust your idle to suit the new settings....these engines like a very small idle gap

it was the Fiorini slider that really kills these engines, massive low end bog no matter what you do...

I will get a video up of one of my modded CRF's on a 086 just to show what these engines can do with the right setup... On concrete it will smoke the tires hard enough to leave rubber off the line, they are brutally powerful .21's

my modded CRF's are getting between 9 and 12 minutes depending on conditions........ We just use the regular header that comes with the 086.

An 086 is not a EFRA legal pipe, its loud and nasty ! I have no idea of the 2066 other then its a quieter pipe that is EFRA legal ( I think anyways )..... We have such fantastic results on the 086 pipes we seldom have any need to look elsewhere other then if we are trying to detune some power from the engine..sometimes on slick tracks the modded Picco 21/086 combo can be hard to handle...then we go to a JP4 or 2053

I am running a OD 97T with an associated 2035 byrons. But I put the carb
from my other CRF and it works great

You know I will try it again bc the LSN is about 4 turns in from flush.
Thats how it came

I would only suggest removing a head shim if you have the tuning spot on.... if the tune is off(lean) you risk running into detonation issues.... As well unless your running a Picco plug I would not recomend it, OS and OD plugs will drop coils faster then you would imagine if any detonation occurs... Picco plugs not only run better in these engines they are also much more durable....

OD plugs are nowhere near as good as the Picco's in these engines, switch to a Picco plug and you will see a dramatic improvement in the engines tuning and performance..... I have tried every plug under the sun in these engines and nothing even comes close to matching how a Picco plug performs and lasts, If i can't get a Picco turbo i switch over to my standard buttons....Usually a Picco turbo will last 1-1.5 gallons of race duty before you notice the low end performance start to fade, I have never once dropped a Picco coil, even in a engine that has had metal debris go thru it, the plug was still intact....They cost a little more but are well worth it....the juice is definitely worth the squeeze...

I'm a little confused, isn't the 086 a knockoff 9886? If so isn't that pipe a fuel hog? I'm gonna try it, but I noticed tebo was running the ae 2035 pipe, I wonder if his goal was to dumb it down a little. Regardless I need back to the future speed,,,,,, and close to 10 mins.
