PDX Mini Z Racing Club

Mo and I have decided to start a grass roots effort to bring the fun back to rc racing in the Portland area.

With the state of RC racing in the area, we decided to try something new and free.

This is not a business venture, but a club.

The PDX Mini Z club will be held once a month at my photo studio. The whole idea is to get some friends together to race small, cost effective rc cars in a fun and clean environment. No drugs, no fees, just fun.

We have ordered the track, and it should be here in a week or so. For those of you who don't know what Mini Z racing is, watch these two videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT51q9_g-88

Our whole goal in this is to just have fun and see who is the fast guy or girl for the month. Nothing else.

We are still working out the rules, but our whole goal is to keep it inexpensive and fun. We will start out with everyone running RTR kits along this line http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/MINI-Z-...K_p_23425.html

There are also formula one style and also offroad, but we want to just get a group of people that want to have some old school racing fun.

Here are the rules from the Kyosho raceway for Mini Z and they seem pretty good to me

1. Be kind and courteous to your fellow racers.

2. Place all trash in the appropriate containers,

3. All children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

4. All drivers not using 2.4Ghz must use frequency clips. (Clip must be returned immediately after use).

5. Spraying of any chemicals is forbidden.

6. Rubber tires only (no foam or rubber with silicone)

6. Profanity, or pornography is forbidden.

7. Alcohol, drugs and tobacco is forbidden inside.

8. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of any substance will be told to leave.

9. Aggressive behavior toward fellow drivers is forbidden.

10. Have Fun!

Once again, this is in no way a business venture. This is just a way of getting people who just want to race without all the fuss.

Let us know if you are interested. We have a deal worked out with Tammies where we can order the car and radio set up for $140, but we need to order them as a group. That will save about $20 bucks off of full retail.

More info to come, once we get the track and some dates set up.

A group of us ran Mini-Z's and Micro RS4's on garage tracks about a decade ago - it's was a blast once the cars were relatively dialed in. Most of the guys participating were some of the fastest locals, so the competition was great. The HPI handled far better back then, but I've heard the Mini-Z has been improved considerably.

Yeah to start with, we want to just go stock spec and see what happens. We just want a place to race with our friends.

Kevin,

Just to Clarify, is EVERYONE to run the Subaru version, OR anything from this Class: http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/MR-03-Sports_c_1166.html

Sounds awesome. The Mini Z racing is No Joke! The Japan guys take it WAAAAY serious.

With the RERE of the Micro RS4, perhaps another avenue as well, as Branden pointed out.

Don't suppose you want to open up the studio to Drifters do you.....?

No payment needed yet. I think the best thing right now is to get the track in here and see whats up with it. We have a couple cars on order, and maybe we can just have a meet and greet night to figure out where we want to go.

Momo, no not going to do drifting. We just decided to do this thing this morning. We are still hashing things out.

I think we could meet and have everyone pick their cars and then put the order in, once we figure out exactly what we need.

We want to test and see if AA batteries work good, or if we need to go lipo.

Once again this is racing for fun and for free. Just a group of friends getting together.

We want to get a loop too if it looks like there is interest. They are only 300 bucks!

We can talk about that at the group meet up once this is finalized

Now this is cool! Would be very interested, for reference there is a shop down south (1 stop hobbies) that has been trying to get a mini-z program off the ground for a bit now. This could be a really cool revival for RC in PDX.

My RC Friends know Ive been talking about Mini Z for years. It's huge in asia and Europe. Ive watched video of events that have bleacher seating and its packed. It's time we give it a go state side. We all love the thrill of auto racing but racing a 1/1 scale car is just not financially realistic for most. Racing a 1/10 scale car can be very expensive as well. We all love the comradery and entertainment value of scale racing. The idea behind club racing is just that, a group of friends having fun in a battle for bragging rights. We want to keep this simple, fun and free. I believe this idea will only stimulate the NW RC community.

a buddie an i used to do this in his garage. we had a 10'x17' track made with 1/2x1/2 rubber square combing taped to the floor. just over a standard deck broom width for lanes. we used to have some great battles on his track. but due to his wife bringing more and more stuff in to the garage we lost the track. we used energizer aaa rechargeable 800mah batteries and we discovered a little trick. one neodymium magnet attached to the motor on one side increased the power and the run time from about 45 min to well over an hour of constant running per charge. enjoy these guys. you can really make these handle well. but depending on surface (we were on bare concrete polished floor) the stock tires arent that good. we experimented with a variety of softer tires. soft tires were much better grip but didnt last long. have fun!

This sounds cool Kevin. If you ever get in the mood to run a little offroad come down and I will have a car or truck for you to run at CGRC.
