Come to a meeting to start a new indoor onroad racing program.

Where: Hangar 30, Magnuson Park, Seattle
When: Wednesday, February 25, 7 PM.

Like many of you, I'm finding this no-racing-on-Wednesday-night a
dreary situation. My wife and kids look at me and ask, "Umm...don't you
have anywhere to go?" I heave a sadsack sigh and shake my head.

Then we all start to cry.

Enough! It can't go on.

So, I went out and got Hangar 30 at Magnuson Park. We
can have it every other Wednesday night for $20/hour (that's for the
group, not individually.) Other dates are available on a special events
basis at a reasonable cost. If we show up reliably, Fridays and
weekends will be more available to us. The city is giving us free onsite
storage for pipes and carpet. I've also sent off to ROAR and paid to start
a club: Seattle RC Racers. With that and everyone getting their own
individual ROAR membership, our premises and individual liability
insurance can be covered at low cost. There are options out there to
borrow/rent/buy a timing and scoring system. I know where there is
some used carpet, and I know where there is some new carpet.

If we pool our resources and work together, we can build a
sustainable race program in a good venue. And once we're up and
running regularly, we will have the city's attention and down the road a
more permanent facility might become available within the Parks system.
All great things have to start somewhere. This could be that start.
It's up to us.

Directions:
From Sandpoint Way, in Seattle, turn into the main park entrance under
the Sandpoint Naval Station sign. Drive straight to the first stop sign.
Hangar 30 is on your left, parking is in front of the hangar. You will see
the Seattle Parks office awning. Come into the hangar.

Couple of questions. Does this mean the efforts made to secure a more permanent facilty by your group have fallen thru? Also, what is the base surface concrete or asphalt. It would seem that setting up carpet, a course then tearing down before leaving is alot to ask for a Wednesday eve. Is it available on the weekends?

Todd, I applaud your efforts. Us northenders have had our eyes on those buildings for some time but have not taken the time to investigate them. I have said many times that now just maybe the time for a "carpet club" instead of the commercial track. The fact that onsite storage is available is huge. I have no problem with Roar, been a member for some 23 years. Others will have an issue with it and they will simply have to get over it or play elsewhere. I would think that a simple program could be put together immediately. It's very likely that it would seriously struggle during the summer, but it would lay the ground work for Fall.

So at the hanger at 7 on the 25th, I will do my best.

great idea, and great job todd, one suggestion, round up some old fire hose to make the layouts with, way, way, faster and easier then laying pipe.

You can't keep a determined RC racer down! Way to forge ahead with Magnuson Todd. Jeff and I will for sure come down and check it out. Have you figured out a driver's stand yet? Also, any chance we can work in some off-road electrics? We have portable jumps that would be very easy to throw down on the course for a race then move. Maybe a separate track entirely - we also have a bunch of corrugated pipe, although that's tough to secure on a cement floor. Either way, I'm pumped to hear you've taken the first step regardless of the type of racing. You've got our support and we'll rally more!

(My wife will be so excited to hear I need to buy yet another RC car - "But honey, this is indoor on-road electric. I don't have one of those yet!")
