Seemed to me that entry fees were $40 & $35 for additional. Awards should be the biggest event expense followed by "keeping the doors" open. Some of these places have only one time events and may need some cash flow to make them happen. I think that this award concept could reduce the overheard and reduce the on going award planning at each event. It's up to the organizers if costs can get passed on to the racers.
What do you guys think about doing a Series Plaque instead of individual trophies at all of the events?
I am not fond of trophies myself. It's great to get some recognition of your achievement I guess, but the plaque idea actually seems more practical. If anything they would be much easier to display, and easier on the tracks. There are a lot of people who leave their trophies behind (slap in the face of the people who put effort into them) so just having a simple plaque would be a easier way to go and less to pack home.
Wes - Fred;
I was thinking more of the metal engraved plate to be awarded instead of a whole plaque. Being awarded a little metal plate to paste to your Series Plaque maybe offensive to some and it maybe just fine to others. I have been around the racing circuit for a couple of weeks now and more trophies does not excite me like it used to.... but there are many that are still up and coming that really work hard to get that chunk of recognition. Plus there are those that will not be able to travel to the entire series so they may prefer to have a trophy over the little metal plate.
The bottom line thinking oozing from my brain is that it is a series race more then individual races. Acquiring points and positions along the way for best end result is the goal.
So these are my thoughts, not trying to brainwash or force my ideas on anyone. It's more of putting my big toe in the water to see if it's too hot!

Hey, I might get kicked in the junk just for bringing this up..... but ponder this:
What do you guys think about doing a Series Plaque instead of individual trophies at all of the events? Here's the concept: you pretty much know that you are going to do the series in the first two races, you either purchase or are given the 2008-09 NWIC blank plaque and at every event you attend, you acquire event plates you mount up on your series plaque. 1-8 could be created for every A, 1-3 for lowers and then a TQ. The plates should be pretty inexpensive but the plaques could run $20. In the end, all the trophies could be made up ahead of time and brought to the races. At the end of the series, you could see all you positions in just one place. Cool? Stupid? Practical? Unpractical?
It cool in my book

Brian I don't care what they give me as long as I am ahead of you in a rubber sedan class. I think it is 13.5 this year.
I only say this cause I think you had it to easy last year.

I like Big Ron's divvie of the entry fees to give cash in hand to winners. I really don't understand the appeal of a plastic pagoda of 1950s bad art.
Anyway, it's a series and there should only be one set of prizes, no more squandering good money on bad pagodas. The cost of these cheesy pieces of tokenism could be deducted from the entry fees and that would be a real incentive for more people to attend.
Just another one for the pot.......

I had it easy? I recall only winning 2 out of the 4 races that I made. I recall having to make a gutsy questionable pass on DuTemple at SIR for a W. TZ2 happened to be a good weekend. Tri-Cities I had my hands full with Ritchie, Erhlick, and Richard. And Big Dads, Richard was "on" while I battled for 2nd. That was a tough and very respected group. Easy? I don't think so.
We can hang out in the back of the A and body tuck the other slow guys!

I wasn't at those races. I believe I only made Selam and Big Dad's. Don't worry I will have a larger bottle of Jamison's next time.
We can do that in the front of the A too.

The best trophy I have is an engraved clear glass coffee mug from Rain City, Debbie had it right, still use it all the time and reminds me of good times, I have probably 100 or more trophies, plaques, etc.. never look at them just take up space

The engraved beer mug from the ECT was also a great trophy. Plenty of barley pops consumed with that one.
Maybe a good idea is a dash plaque for each event and then an engraved mug for the series champs.
The mugs were pretty reasonably priced also if I remember right. The smaller plaques she had were decent as well, and cheap to print..I do not know how much the wood plaque itself cost though.

Yeh, functional is better for sure. Never the less, a cupboard ful of cups is still just that !!
Take the price off the entry then everybody wins.....
