Default 1/12 scale help

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you could please help me out.

I will be running 1/12 scale for the very first time art this race and have zero knowledge when it comes to this class. I have a AE RC12L4 that i am going to be starting out with and just need a few questions answered.

What tires should i run at this track since it will be new carpet? I will be using jaco tires, or I can get parma's if they are better. I have no access to crc so they aren't a option.

Should i change compunds as the traction picks up?

What size should i tru the tires to, i was told 47mm rear and 42.5mm front to start.

What is a good gear ratio if i am running the komodo dragon with a 88 tooth spur. I know i will need to pick up a few pinions to cover the change in rollout so a ballpark of ratios would be helpful. (I have IB4200 WC if it matters, so i don't think runtime is a issue)

Does anyone have any suggestions for set up of the car or any helpful links to get me started. I am very familiar with 1/10 scale, but 1/12 is all new to me and i would like to start off on the right foot.

So once again thanks for any help, i have been reading the 1/12 scale thread, but it is allot of data to soak up

start with a .075 t-bar and 22 front springs.....

try Jaco 2stage tires....maybe pink rears with purple fronts....

start the tires around 1.80" rear and 1.70" front....

the cool thing is, as the grip comes up your tires are getting smaller and this is good...

ask Brian Bodine or Peter Robinson about gearing at the track...cuz that will vary depending on the layout...

hope this helps

single stage tires mightbe good for ya as you are learning... the 2 stage will peel if you arent careful, and you will get less runs out of them.

they are faster though.

47mm rear and 42.5mm front is generally too much stagger in the tires. The rule of thumb is .10" or 2mm stagger from front to rear. As Sean stated, 1.80" rear and 1.70" front is a good starting point. I would recommend CRC or Jaco foams. The Parma are nice but the rears are different offset then other foams.

This first race will be a little different then a normal carpet race because the carpet will be very fresh. However a groove will build fast with people running on the track.

Is this indicating the rug is layed ?? And you've built nice soft corners ??

Peter do you have any idea what i need for gearing, i need to go pick up some pinions so i am going to try and get a spread. Also how many sets of tires will i need to last me the weekend.

Should i pick up all purple fronts with pink rears? What about double pink front and pink rear, is that a good combo?

The track should be fairly sizeable, but again, it's dependant on lay out. A roll out for 19T could be 1.65-1.95 or 25-30 tooth. Make sure you have a can of Paragon. Tires could be: purple fronts, gray rears... or pink rears. Purples should be about 95% of what you'll want. The rears will need to be detirmined. Pick your tire split based on steering/stability needed... .080" = lots of steering. .15" = more stable.

.020-.022
3.5mm r/h
1/4 degree toe out.
1.5 & 1 degree camber
25% fr traction
silver center spring w/ 25wt
.075 t-bar, 3 screws
light grease on one damper plate
full traction rr

dial from there...

With the 2-stage jacos how do you think the pink, black, & purple fronts will work?

Should I run a different tire setup than what works @ rain or do you expect the grip to be about the same?

Guys, it's going to be a very fresh track and will be hard to guess what tires will be dialed. You can probably be safe with whatever you used at Slugfest. It sounds like a couple people will be up there early to do some testing and might have some feedback before the race. If I make it up there I will definitely report back here what I find out.
