i think the best way to help the new guy is....DON'T TELL THEM ABOUT RC TECH . NET........ there is very little useful info on here and 80 % of the posts are just B.S. its more about people trying to control other people and ego's....
(and right now some jackass is saying to himself, yea and what about you)

It's CLUB RACING. who the hell cares what you run.
The current problem is no one is going to the track. Not enough people is a bigger problem that what class someone drives.
I choose to enter the class that has the most people in it for more competition.
So STFU and go to the track. run what ya want and HAVE FUN!!!!!

Ok, now I get what this topic is about... It's how to get new racers into the hobby... right? That has been a problem on this side of the mountains too. It seems to recently be coming around though, due to a few things our club and Northwest R/C have done. Here's our (short) list:
1. We heavily advertised the sportsman gas and novice electric classes.
2. We give a free race entry to anyone who hasn't raced before.
3. The shop gives a free race coupon out with every kit they sell.
4. The race schedule is posted at the shop on a big whiteboard.
5. We made our race schedule consistent (same time, same day of the week, every week) for outdoor offroad. People really seem to like Saturday night.
After almost 2 months of this, the sportsman and novices outnumber the rest of us, and it's AWESOME! It means we actually have time to fix our cars between rounds and even help the new guys.
If someone would have told me this a little over a month ago, I wouldn't have believed it, but it actually does work.
