Default Best starting procedures, Heats and Mains???

Ok I want some Pro help on this.
Ordering RC Scoring Pro this week , great program and GREAT customer service, have been demoing it for 4 weeks now.
How would you all like to start heats and Mains.
Heats...
Staggered start, timed against yourself, 1 goes 2 goes 3 goes etc etc
Toned start, staggered but all start at same time when tone sounds
Another way???????

Mains
This one i'm not sure of really, what is best?

have seen and we did the Wave yer hand, clear em out, both hands down quiet and drop em, everyone takes off on the tone... Seemed pretty good for a main start

Also guys have mentioned a starting gate, whatt about that.

Want it to be the best and fair for everyone. What is the point of qualifying 1st if ya dont get any position for it?

Thanks all, Just want my track to be the best around

Chris

As a racer I prefer 3 qualifiers using IFMAR starting. That means you start the qual then call each racer out one at a time giving them space between themselves and the people in front of back of them. What this does is not have everyone bunch up in the first corner and hurt everybodies qual time. In quals you are racing yourself and the clock, not others.

For mains I like single A-Main with a grid and all racers go sound of the buzzer. Your place on the grid is based on "rocket round" or single fastest qualifier.

Thats what I kinda thought Anthony... Great Input

Heats are for quali. your postition for the Main, best quali. gets the best position.
How far apart on a mass start main should you space the rigs?

Great help guys

ok chris ill tell you how the big races usually go
everybody lines up according to car number (1-10 first round,10-1 2nd round, random 3rd round , the program should be able to be setup as random for 3rd round and it usually does it by the fastest guy first) , usually pit guys hold cars up in pit lane until , doesnt work if pit lane is after start finish line though , your number is called , or name. everybody continues racing until they call you done , and ifsomebody who is faster comes up behind you (common courtesy) , you should let them pass , because 1 person getting by without making you wreck is gonna actually improve your time and theirs. i believe that unless you are at a big two or three day race event , that qual points should not be used , but instead the program should be set for rocket round . as for the mains we usually startthem as positioned after qualifying , either on a straightaway or other area that can accomidate all 10 cars in an unbunched up fashion usually 6-8 feet is normal spacing . as a race director i would try to call cautions on the track and warn some less than courteous drivers for contact , and that next time they get a stop n go in the penalty box .
hopefully helpful HOUSTON
oh and starting gates are kinda cool but not always the most fairest of starts unless you got traction and a wicked ass engine like mine

Great Input Houston as always. The 10-1 and 1-10 and random makes great sense, I will definantly incorporate that.
What exactly is a Rocket Round?
I like the cautions and stuff, saw the issues on the Hank Perry forum so want to avoid what I can of any controversy.

So timed in heats then in main's say 25 minuts staggered mass start. We did that basical The last week and seemed to work well.

Again thanks for the help Houston

Ya gunna make an appearance on Saturday? Hope so

Later

Single fastest qualifying round which determines your place 1-10 on the main grid.

yes for the mains (in nitro anyway) your pit guy holds you up on the starting grid until R.D. says clear em out then down and quiet at which time all guys holding the cars either beat feet off the track or corner marshall . like i said qual points are not a good idea for regular club racing .
later HOUSTON
P.S. i might be out there to try my new secret weapon buggy

The alternate way of starting the mains is a "rolling start" where everyone goes out of the pits in qualifing order, rolls around the track at a slow pace, NO PASSING and keep a few feet between cars.
When the lead car gets close (20 feet or so) of the loop the RD hits the start button and everyone starts.
The start button could be hit when the RD sees everyone is in position, which could be at any point on the track, preferably during a straight..

Houston good post. Racing all these years you learned something. But on Dirt, Rocket rounds are a no no. You need the qual points to make quailifing fair. Dirt changes to much to use rocket rounds.
