Don't forget FW's next club race is this Sunday the 31st!

With the weather forecast looking like it is we are going to have one dialed track to race on! Nothing like a few days of spray on a asphalt track to bring up the traction and take away tire wear!

There's another issue that might exist there. Forgot to scope it out when I left last time, but there may be houses/apartments just on the other side of those trees. Got a whiff or two of barbecue last time there.

Our third race of the 2015 season tomorrow!

I am forecasting some fantastic touring car racing. Scale Spec, Stock, and Modified action are guaranteed good times. And we've had three and four car Novice fields as well, which is "run what ya brung."

We have racers back from Reedy, including Mod A main driver Korey Harbke ready to throw down the hurt. So, come get some.

I'll say track build at 9am because that's what we said at the meeting. But Mike can't help himself, so it's more like 8:30.

Another great day of touring car racing at Fantasy World.

Scale Spec served up the thriller of the day as young Nicholas Bostrom tried a risky outside lane start of his main (after crushing all three rounds of qualifying) that didn't pay off. Clifton came through, took the lead, and Nick found himself in the 3-spot. Nick clearly had the speed, but it took all of it and most of the main for him to reel back Mike. He pulled it off, making a fine pass in the sixth minute to retake the lead.

Stock was stoutly contested between the top 3 of Kerry, Dick, and Mike. Kerry bolted down the TQ, but Dick challenged, taking the second round. Mike was consistent in the third spot, staying on the same lap, waiting for a bobble. But, Kerry had the speed overall, no question. The main was somewhat rough as Dick made a great start and got around. But Stock is always tough, it's fast, but the speeds are equal, to the battle is close quarters. Kerry and Dick traded blows, allowing Mike through for the lead. He held it for several laps, but Kerry got sorted out and laid down fast laps and took over the lead. From there, it was all over but the shouting.

We had three young men in Novice showing enthusiasm and having fun. As always, thanks to the dads and friends for getting the boys out. Tristan won the main.

Mod was a little rough at the start, to be honest. In the end, it all came out about like it should. Kody was running 13.5 power, and no matter how exquisite his line, there's no way he can beat Korey without swinging the same size bat. Jake gave it his all, but Korey was too good and took back the lead, with Kody in second, and Jake in third after leading most of the race.

We're back on Sunday, a back-to-back. And since I'm looking out my office window in Federal Way at a nice, soaking, and overdue rain, we'll be on a new layout as well.

Default Sizz '08 Report

Gang, hope all are having a great spring/summer. I was cleaning out the computer and came across an old article I wrote. So before I send it off into oblivion, take a trip down memory lane.......

Fantasy World Racing has just completed it’s 25th year of a northwest favorite, The Summer Sizzler in Tacoma, Washington. The weekly Sunday club racing events in the parking lot escalate to this anticipated event every year in early August. This year had some local pro’s Trav Schreven with Xray, Ritchie Reynolds fresh off of a Roar Masters win, and then Team Associated’s Kevin Hebert, plus all the countless local talent that has graced the podiums across the country. This event leaves a who’s who in the on-road circuit for the calendar year.

Practice started off very well Friday afternoon with warm sunny skies. The traction was great. The layout had a 1/2 oval feel with a technical infield. The track has a slight angle for drainage resulting in a up hill down hill character that requires plenty of driving concentration. The track was open well into the evening as the parking lights lit the track.

Saturday started off a little damp with a short practice followed by the concourse event, driver’s meeting and group photo. The first round went off on time but the threat of weather soon became real about 2 hours in. Multiple minor rain delays plagued the day but that did not keep the racing action from being hot. Several drivers jockeyed for the resort for Sunday morning’s last round. Sunday was to be good weather and promised a fast track once again.

There was roughly 100 entries over 6 classes by 58 drivers had this years Sizzler stacked. Gas Touring had one of the deepest fields followed by 13.5 Touring, 17.5 Touring, Mod Touring, Trans Am & 12th Scale 13.5 classes. One thing for sure is you were going to need to be ready to go quick Sunday morning as the track was fast just as predicted. TQ times fell like leaves in fall. After the smoke had cleared, these drivers were sitting with pole positions: Brian Bodine - Gas Sedan, Brian Shook - 13.5 Touring, Ritchie Reynolds - TA, Trav Schreven - Mod Touring, Brian Bodine - 12th 13.5, and Jose Morales in 17.5 Touring.

The mains were set for Tripple A’s for all electric classes and one & done for gas and lowers.

A1 Mains: 13.5 Touring had Jon Sterling and Brian Shook going nose to wing for most of the race when contact late in the race showed great sportsmanship with a pause allowing Jeff Kuney to take the win. The TA has a designed speed limitation to keep racing close. Close is what we saw in A1 of TA as Ritchie Reynolds and Mike DuTemple raced it out for 8 minutes. Ritchie owned the straight away while Mike had the infield. Finishing first by a car length was Ritchie followed by Mike then James Erbele. Mike didn’t even come off the stand, instead just switched models over to 12th mode. Brian Bodine took the pole start for a wire to wire win while Mike and Paul Leask fought for 2nd. Paul made a final lunge getting hung up and had to settle for 3rd. Mod had Associated’s Kevin Hebert make a pass early on Trav while Kody & Darren hung on with a 3 way battle. Trav tapped the back right sweeper sending his Xray into outer space. Kevin took the win with Daren & Kody filling in 2 & 3. Jose Morales took the pole start of 17.5 all the way to the finish line but not without a lot of pressure from FW host Your Buddy Dave 1 second back and Marc Cabanag also close for 3rd.

B & C Mains: Paul Leask having a tough time in qualifying in gas sedan took the C Main with little effort. 13.5 Touring B Main also proved an easy task for Byron Weston. The Gas Sedan B Main was a great show with Edward Dinter of Vancouver, Canada up against local Andrew Tuck with Edward eeking out a win over Andrew followed by Lynn Cluck for 3rd.

A2 Mains: 13.5 Touring had TQ Brian leading until a late break letting Jon take a needed big win with Jeff 2nd, Chris Ponce 3rd. In the TA main, Ritchie put the hammer down and closed the deal with a 2 & out overall win leaving Mike 2nd, Pete Thomas 3rd. Brian claimed the next 2 & out overall win in 12th 13.5 with a reenactment of Paul making a last lap challenge to Mike with the same result. Mod Touring had Kevin snatching the lead immediately from Trav and took it to the checkers for the next 2 & out win. Trav fought off Kody for 2nd, leaving Kody 3rd. YBD mustered up the strength to take the win in 17.5 Touring followed by Jose and David Leister. Gas Sedan had Dave Erhlick out front early while TQ Brian struggled to hold on to 2nd. Jose and Ken Ho challenged for that 2nd as Dave rode off. Dave took the 25 minute final with Brian holding on to 2nd, Ken taking 3rd.

A3 Mains: 13.5 Touring needed Jon or Jeff to take the next win for the title, but Jeff dropped out early. Jon took the win and the title with TQ Brian close behind, Chris 3rd. With Ritchie loading up the TA on the trailer already, the rest of the podium needed to be filled in. Mike took A3 by 5 seconds over Brian Shook, James 3rd. Paul had one last chance to redeem himself in the final 12th 13.5 main. Paul and Mike went back and forth for 8 minutes with Paul finally getting the edge over Mike in the end with James taking 3rd. Trav needed a good finish in Mod Touring to take a podium spot and that is just what he did by taking the win in A3 followed by Darren 2nd and Jon 3rd. The last main of the day was 17.5 Touring and was still up for grabs. With a thin margin of victory by 1/2 a second and a win over all was Jose over David in 2nd with YBD taking 3rd.

The track was quickly packed away and the trophy presentation began. A host of sponsors had donated to the venue with some very appealing prizes had been given away the entire event. Everyone was on the edge of their seat waiting for the lucky number to be drawn. Smiles and handshakes concluded the 25th Annual FW Summer Sizzler. The calendar is already blotted out for next years event.

This list of sponsors helped make this race possible: Fantasy World Hobbies*, Lunsford Racing, Traxxas*, Hobbico, Futaba, OS Max, Duratrax*, Horizon Hobby, Team Losi, Dynamite*, X-Ray/Hudy, King/Kong TV, Radio Control Hobbies*, High Velocity*, Novak*, Dairy Queen, Sharie’s Restaurant, Round Table Pizza*, Trinity*, David Leister, Franco Roberts, Jose Morales, & Tom Tainer.
