The 2002 Toys For Tots will be held at CP raceway, 3rd weekend of
December, Fri, Sat, Sun. The fliers are done and will be posted this
week, the entry form this year asks the drivers to specify their skill
level, we will have heats and mains according to drivers skill level,
this should be a little more fun for everybody.

Well you just had to ask did'nt you!
Ok, here is the lowdown.
Kelsey Started 1st in the "N" main, and won that wire to wire,
She then bumped into the "M" main, and was ready to bump up again, that is until her pit crew, that would be me, ran her out of fuel! OMG, you never saw someone run so fast as I did then. She was in second before she flamed out, got back on the track and was in 5th, and worked her way back to 3rd!
So, for a little nine year old kid, and girl at that, did very well, and we both just had a blast, but I am still getting flak for running her out of fuel, as I should probably!
We live and we learn, and that was a great place to learn.

Now we are running 1/8th scale, and at Kelsey's first race in LA, at the toys for tots race, she qual'd 7th in the sportsman's "A" main, and finished 2nd!!! WOW
Anyhow, don't wait to get started, you are missing out on a lot of FUN!!!

Alright then.

Oh btw, nice job on pit crew for your kid smitty! But she sounds like she is unbelievably fast! Did she just jump right into nitro or did she start with elecs (although if she did she cant have been at it for long considering that she IS only 9 and all). And another thing. She looks so happy in the pictures! Its attitudes like that that make RC such a wonderful hobby. You and Kelsey are unofficial ambassadors for the sport, smitty!

I will never live down my pit crew duties at that race! But, it has been a great run, and we met a lot of great people there, it was worth the mistake.
Kelsey actually has been around racing since she was in diapers!!
I used to take her racing with me, since the wife had to work weekends then, we raced off road then and Kelsey was about a year old!! I would change her diapers on the pit table, and caught all sorts of grief from my buddies, but it was all in good fun.
Kelsey was always with me when it came to racing, and I finally got her into her own HPI PRO. I would hold the radio, and she would put her hands on mine, and feel what I did. At about 5, she was on her own. 3-4 yrs of that, I made the move to nitro, and Kelsey asked if she could try it, I was running a Yokomo GT-4,
And the rest is history.
So there is a basic history of my little Girl.
Best watch her now, she will be tough in the next few years, that is if she decides to stick with it. I never force her to race, this is OUR hobby, what we do for fun, and that is the way I like it.

Yeah Smitty, thats the way it should be. I was given the choice at first but then when I started to get noticed I was forced into everything. I had to be the best, run the same line every single lap. I couldn't even hit the car.

In many ways I retaliated but I still loved my racing. Now, when I look back at it I wish I could do it all again. My dad is strict when I'm on the track. (Even now and I'm 26 - lol). Always shouting and yelling even if I loose my line. In a way my atmosphere would be more suited to racing real cars.

Later.
