difference between 3 and 5 port engines?
Hey, Im looking at getting an Associated TC3 kit and i was looking at engines. i was just wondering what would be the best engin and what is the difference between a 3-port and a 5-port? also is the TC3 a good choice.
P.S. I also have an Associated RC10GT that needs a new engine...what would be a good one for that?

3 ports are race legal an 5 ports aren't (there are exceptions). in theory 5 ports should be faster but since they aren't made for competition and for that reason not tuned to the max, the difference is hardly noticable.

im looking at the O.S. .12 TZ (P)-T 5-Port Turbo...It says its race legal?
but if 5 port isnt race legal there is that same engine in a 3-port.

When it comes to on-road racing budgets are usually the factor deciding what engine you buy. IF there is an exception to that it is the OS TZ engine. You get an engine that is definitely faster than what you pay for. What the other guy said is correct. If you race using roar rules, you need to get the 3-port engine. Have fun!!!

Overall, get the 3 ports for the NTC3....12 OS TZ is a good choice.

thanks for all the help...so the os tz is a fast engine and will serve me well?
and i have an associated rc10gt and im looking for a new engine...what would be a good one, is the os tz rotary a good choise for off road or is there a different one better suited for off road?

You got to run fast and you got to run hard if you want to be ahead of the pack during competitive on road racing. A good mill is just as important to have as a well tuned you car. A NEW O.S .12TZ 5 PORT turbo engine. If you want power at the trigger, the TZ 5 port may have exactly what you need.

ok...ill look into both then...also is the TC3 the bst out there (in your opinions) that is shaft and not belt...does the TC3 have a closed gear box, cause i drive mostly on the street and there are some little rocks and stuff.

p.s. OS 12TZ 3 port is great engine for the money. It doesn't give much away to the top end italian engines! It has a nice powerband and is one of the most torquey .12's money can buy! Rebuilding is also easy on the wallet!
