Hi Rick,

Elite RC in Halifax will be able to set you up with the rear trim tab/wing, and yes you need one for sure, they make a HUGE difference.

Tyres are available also from Elite RC in Halifax, I wouldn't be too fussed about buying a truer for racing at club level at first.

The rear wing height, depends on track conditions and the car, but around 5mm above the body is a good place to start.

James.

James - will there be any Shelherd drivers driving the Velox E8 at the National this year in the electric 1/8th category?

You could buy the rear trim tab/gurney flap, but equally you could make your own up from the waste lexan you have to cut from the bodyshell. What I do is to carefully cut out the waste from the rear of the shell measure and cut the trim tab and create the flick up by lightly scoring with a hobby knife bending it against a straight edge like a ruler. Then drill adjustable elongated holes to mount it to the body.

On tyres you can run them straight out of the box especially as a newcomer. If you go for a tyre truer then most of the trackside support dealers should be able to help you there and advise on usage. Technically its better for the gearing if you keep to a specific diameter difference between front and rear although this always seems to vary depending on who you speak to but I think its a 7mm difference on a Serpent ?

Personally I've always hated the thought of reducing the sizes out of the box with a truer as you kind of feel you aren't getting value for money, but there again if you are chasing performance its something you will start to play with to improve handling and reduce lap times.
