Default Serpent 747 Roller, Just getting started.

Hay all, Decided to give 1/8th offroad a rest and delve into some on-road racing. I've managed to find a pretty good Serpent 747 roller to get started, see how I go then upgrade later on. What recommendations do you all have for beginners? eg what servo speeds and weights are recommended for throttle/steering?

I ran low profile servos in my 747 and still do in my 748. These are very good for the money and perform very well http://sanwa-denshi.com/rc/car/servo/ers-971.html you can at least use the specs as a guide of what you are looking for in a suitable servo.

Although they will handle lipo (they are rated at 6v though) run them on life 6.6v.

The only other recommendation I have is to strip and rebuild the car as per the manual. Run the stock setup and give it a go! I'm sure you'll love it.

What engine are you planning to run?

I'am going to run a Novarossi .12, not %100 sure on what one to go with, probably a middle range one with and good header and pipe. This will be good practice for me too get into 1/8 onroad gas too.

Novarossi Rex Legend or something like that would be ideal from the Novarossi range. However don't rule out Picco. The EMX-WC is a fantastic engine and is cheaper than most of the Novarossi's unless you go for the cheapest novarossi's like the strum or ison.

if your budget is tight don't rule out a RB speed 12 (inexpensive) combined with a nova 2660 pipe and medium conical header i used a pair of the 1251mg in my 10th scale
