New to onroad
Hello!
I'm a old 1:8 buggy guy, but have been looking into 1:10 onroad (200mm Nitro touring) and it looks amazingly (Is that even a word?) fun.
But I'm totaly lost in the oroad world.
Can get my hands on the Serpent 747 and Xray NT1 '13 and '14 fearly easy.
And I'm guessing that there are the same rules that in 1:8 buggy. The cars are pretty much the same, it's the spares etc that matters.
Or is it better waiting for the 748 Natrix, it look sweet as hell.
When it comes to electronics: I have a radio and a receiver, two standrad size servos, Savox 1258TG, dose these fit or do you have to run low profile. I that case whitch ones? I have a kyosho starterbox somewhere, I guess that works fine.
And for the other big question engine and pipe, Novarossi? RB? OS speed? Yes, I'm lost here.
Any thing more? Body, tires etc?

Hi there. You are right. 200mm TC is fantastic. Personally I'm a great fan of the Serpent 747 which I have been running for the last couple years. Brilliant car. Quick out of the box without having to spend loads on hop ups as you need to on other cars. I can't wait for the 748 as it will be an incredible car I'm sure. If you can get a second hand 747 now to run while you wait for the 748 do it because most of the suspension and drive train is the same so you'll have some spares for the 748 if needed.
As for engines you can't really go wrong with Picco, OS or Novarossi. In my book the Novarossi's have the edge but are usually more expensive than a picco or os alternative. I run novarossi exclusively in all my cars on and off road so I'm kind of biased! The new novarossi virtus is an absolute beast!
Standard servos will fit in the 747 (not sure yet on 748) but most of us around here run low profile servos. Something like the Sanwa BLS or Sanwa 701/801 variety. Run them from a life rx pack, not lipo. Unless you have high voltage servos although I don't know any low profile high volt servos on the market right now.
With regards to bodyshell. The 2 main shells are both Protoform. Either the SRS-N or P37-N depending on level of traction you have available with later being more suitable to high grip and the former low grip although this is not a firm rule so get both and try them and see which suit your driving style.
Any Onroad starter box will do as you can just play around with the brackets to make it fit.
Tyres. Just run whatever they run at your local track.

Saw that REDS Racing has a .12 engine, I'm using a REDS in my buggy. Maybe thats something to consider buying. The REDS Racing M3 I think the name was.
I will see if a can find a used 747 then, or waiting for the 748 if I can't find any.

what is the most popular chassis brand at your track? spares are key and onsite help with a handling issue is a blessing as for engines i have run RB Maxpower and have a Nova in the box spare if you have a limited budget rb speed 12 is a solid low priced performer ran one all last season ran flawless with a good power delivery

Allright, have a Serpent 747 and a REDS M3 WC on the way!
Also two low profile servos and a bunch of tires, bodies and a Hudy setup station.
This is going to be interesting!

Great choice and I am sure that you will really enjoy the car. Stick with the kit setup initially - its a good starting point.
Check out the 747 and 748 specific threads as there is a huge array of good (and some bad!) hints and tips to be found.

Both good choices. I picked up a 747 for this season and if I didnt have a brand new novarossi left from last year there would be a reds in it. As soon as I need a new engine, it'll be a reds or picco

One more question, I bought some tires with carbon wheels. (Matrix something if I'm not misstaken) Whats the difference between them and normal plastic ones?

The carbon wheels may be a bit more fragile than the plastic rims. Another company a few years ago (don't remember the name off the top of my head) made carbon wheels and if you tapped anything, the center hubs would break out, leaving you a useless wheel with tons of good foam rubber on it. Just be careful and not hit a lot of things in case the wheels you have are like the ones I described.

The matrix carbon are very strong no breaking issues. The difference between the two is with the carbon the rim don't flex as much. The car responds quicker.
