Default HPI RS4 Mini - Nitro - Old Engine and want to bring it back to life.

Hello. I have an old HPI RS4 Mini that I want to bring back to life. Its been sitting in the storage for about 6 years. The last I used it, the engine ran fine. I was wondering if after sitting for 6 years is the engine still good? Do I need to do anything special before I try and fire it up again? Or should I just buy a new engine. Thanks

Ive seen some nitro engines start right up after 5 years, if it was taken care off why not?
Try it.. the worst that can happen is you need to get a new engine...
once you Get it running post some pics... I love those little things.. I have an electric.. you don't see these very often.

I would put some after run engine oil and move it manually so it can have some lubrication.

c00lguy,

If you eventually want to get rid of your mini nitro, hit me with a PM. It would be a nice addition to my nitro and electric HPI minis.........

Thanks for the good responses. I pull start is stuck and it wont move. I have a .12 nitro star engine. What should I do? Thanks for tips.

I do want to get rid of it to get some newer stuff. I can sell or trade. Just know though that the car doesnt run right now. It currently has a 96 civic body, .12 nitro star with stuck pull start, 2 airtronics servo. Car is in decent shape - barely any scratches on bottom. Needs new tires. The car needs some TLC It was a fun car when i drove it around a few times. Only took it out twice after break-in. Thanks

Either your one way bearing in the pull start is hung or the engine had some fuel residual in it in which the oil gelling up is stopping internal movement. If you have a heat gun or hot blow dryer, heat the engine up for a couple of minutes and see if that frees everything up.

c00lguy,

Try the Heat like it was stated earlier. That should be able to tell u if its the bull start.
Also if you decided to get rid off as you can tell many of us are interested.. I would also love to added to my collection.
BTW the pull start is pretty cheap to replace.

Tear it down, any oxidation will harm the engine, whether on the crank, the bearings or moving parts. Check bearings, clean lube and if it's still good on compression and bearings are rough, then it may need changing. If you need help doing it, just ask...
