Belt drive verses shaft driven?

Which is the best option, performer, reliable form of driving a car, belt drive or drive shaft?

I have 2 cars, one a thundertiger which is driven by severel belts & a kyosho, which is driven by metal drive shafts.

Which is the best option?

parking lot, shaft. track competiton, belt is used. its more than just prefrence i think. its either or

Hi Silacomalley,

David Spashett summed it up best at the 2004 Worlds. Belt driven cars can reach higher top speeds since gearing and drive raitos are more flexable and easier to service.

From personal experience, shaft drive does very well on short/tight tracks (because of lower available drive ratios) and is less likely to be damaged by rocks (pebbles always get s stuck in the pullys and belts).
