Had fun participating at another Fireball Classic. The drive home was a little shorter (made it in 9 hrs flat). Can't wait to run on the "blue" track again soon. It was nice to put some names with faces (British Menace) and get re-acquainted with some familiars ones from last year.
Last year in GT, I was part of the attrition. This year, I survived the war of attrition. And, I did it by going old school GT from the early days. After struggling in Saturday's qualifying against some very stiff competition, I went back to the original Kyosho GT1 with only Kyosho upgrade shoe transmission and OS 21VG (3-port). I opted using some IP 45 shore medium inserts and the Warrior body. I was not the fastest car on the track but turned out to be one of the more consistent (behind Z who won the main). And, I had to fight from falling well behind the field early but my old-school OS 21VG (from 2010) proved to be up for the challenge against a bunch of 5 port mills. By the time the checkered flag dropped, I took home the second place trophy.
In nitro touring car, I had less issues than I did in GT. The car ran fine but the driver was rusty. I need to get more reps under the new car (Xray NT1) and work to find a better setup for it (over my basically retired MTX4). I was able to hang in with all but the top two guys in the class (who ran circles around me, literally). Like in GT, I fell back early (driver errors) but hung in and survived the attrition war with the racers between myself and the top two guys. At the end of the main, I was able to bring home the third place trophy.
