Cost comparsion between 1/10 vs. 1/5
#91
'91 moved in with a roommate. He had 240Z sitting in his carport for 6 years. Forget what he did with it. '88 had a project, Project of installing a 350CCi Corvette engine in a '74 914 Porsche. Project turned out to a vehicle, less than 2000ibs gross weight, 400bhp, 4brl holley, 15 gallon gas tank, Amazing thing, the vehicle can take from Los Angeles, Ca to Las Vegas,NV and back with 15gallons of gas. 911 Porsche 5sp transmission will bolt up to a 327 and 350 Chevy. Horsepower to weight is the trick. One other car which is less then 2000ibs. Can you tell me what it is?

I bet that Porsche was a beast!! I don't know off hand what car weights less than 2,000 pounds.

What is more wicked is that the engine in the Elise is the Toyota VVT-i 4 cyl. Being a Toyota engine, you can use all the TRD hop-ups on it. Tuners were slapping turbos and the like on this engines making their cars the ultimate pocket rockets (imaging pushing 250hp to 350hp in a car weighing under 2000 lbs).

Back on topic, I am eyeballing this car for my sedan:
http://www.davesmotors.com/FG-158179R
and this car for my F1 choice:
http://www.davesmotors.com/fg10000r
If things go as planned, I hope to have both by Christmas 2014 (at least one for sure). It is not a matter of "if" as it is a matter of "when".

1:5 in Shanghai
Hi all,
nice to see an active thread about 1:5 cars in this forum.
Together with two friends of mine we started the first 1:5 onroad club in Shanghai.
Currently we have four Harm SX3, a top of the line, onroad touring car made in Germany.
All of us also raced and still race 1:8 nitro and the running cost of 1:5 are definitely lower than1:8 - perhaps if you are a notorious crasher maybe not...
But what made us buy those massive cars is the real look and more realistic driving handling.
To the cost comparison at the beginning of this thread: it compares a top of the line 1:10 car with an entry level 1:5 car...
We hope the WC 2015 will be in Malaysia - not so far away from us and we will go there with a couple of racers - and after the race make some vacation of there since it is a very nice country...
If some of you guys ever visit Shanghai give me a note...
See ya
