for customer supports i think you should take a look at HPI or Traxxas

most of the GPs out there are fairly durable and you can put a little effort in to make them reliable also

so it comes down to personal preference

This Max MTX-3 was landed in C main while the NS12 powered MTX-3 grabbed the A main 1st.

Perhaps, the driver didnt tuned to his liking and his driving also another factor to consider too..
a fast engine is not the ticket to win. it all depends on how you set up the engine, the clutch, gear ratio and all.

if the engine falls into wrong hand, it is still a deadmeat.

hmmmmm...well if everything else is set up correctly, I'd have to say that a fast engine is a key to winning. Especially considering 90% of the guys at the nationals had FAST engines. Just my 2 cents. Don't mean to offend anyone. When racing against the best of the best, I think you NEED a fast engine.

of course when you are good you can make good use of a good engine and have good results

but bad drivers with fast engines can be entertaning at the track, all those stuns then manage to create at the end of the straight are amazing

He caught up to the other cars within a few laps after flaming out several times. Did you see the top end on that car? WOW! that car was flying at the end of the straight! Anyway, I'm looking at performance, customer support, durability, reliability, etc. Sure the winning record is important, but only if all the other factors follow with it. So mainly what I'd like to know is what experiences you guys have had with parts, performance, and how well the manufacture responds to your needs.
Thanks!
Parts support in my experience has been okay to good for Mugen. Serpent has been inadequate and poor. If one shop has a part back ordered from Serpent they all have it back ordered. Its not the shops fault, it is Serpents fault. That has been my biggest frustration with serpent.

Not every hobby shop carries Mugen or Serpent.
I haven't really owned an HPI before(not true I have a couple of Micros), but 9.5 out of 10 hobby shops I've been to carry HPI. How well will they support the R40, only time will tell.

jbackslash, can't you just order parts directly from serpent? I heard they had fairly good customer support. A guy I talked to at the nationals said that serpent came out with a new fuel tank and sent them out to everyone who sent their old one in. That to me, is good service. Unlike associated who comes out with an improved tank and sells it for the same price while denying there is anything wrong with the old tank.

Can the MTX-3 be setup to run with rubber tires on tight parking lot tracks, as well as lage prepared tracks with foam tires?

You may want to talk to Cartman. He's the expert on MTX-3 w/ rubber tires and the cut-down rear knuckles.

Thumbs up There's something missing at the Nat.

I wonder what they use to tune their engines.

some like it rich, some don't. I get a good feel and result with my engine when it runs HOT and LEAN.

Normally, I believe, the low-end for their engines is lean and the top-end is rich..
