Some say the Mugen is better, some will go for Serpent....

I drive Serpent, but actually it's more because I'm Dutch...

If for both cars it's easy for you to get spare parts, I would go for what's best for your wallet......

I also have the idea that Serpent comes with newly designed stuff more often than Mugen does, but maybe I'm wrong.....

For the engine.
Is it your 1st 1/8 scale car?
If so, buy a engine which is not very fast (a 5-port engine or so), it still allows you to race, but it handles better.........

Its more of a prefrence thing. Both kits are good, you should pick the kit that you find has the most availability on replacement parts. In my own opinion i would go with the mugen. and if you want a powerful engine and dont have much intention to take it to the track check out this one http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEPH9&P=7 . if your looking for something for the track check out www.teamtrinity.com for some engines or look at this one. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXCKY1&P=7 . same thing with engines, prefrence and reliablility and availability of parts.
