is nitro dying?
#16
All depends if you want to wait an hour or three seconds and fill a tank.
#17
But if nitro is really that difficult then there wasn't any market for nitro rtr cars.

..why do threads like this even start???...opinion threads accomplish nothing

Nitro will never die just like electric and gasoline strokers will never die. People in this hobby like to build/rebuild/modify which is why there are plenty of aftermarket parts/motors/accessories...some should not even be sold like Integy bulkheads on my EMaxx Brushless Edition that bend on their own from just mild bashing 4-8 INCHES LOL.
Then there's the Integy "Titanium" skidplate...lol good one right there. If that was truly titanium you wouldnt be able to bend it with two cheapo pliers.
Their are even worse brands than Integy out there too flooding the market. But most people myself included want their first r/c to be loud and fast so usually it's going to be some sort of nitro 1/10 4x4 car or monster truck rig.
Then comes the tuning aspect of nitro motors. .21-.28 motors are popular are reliable while holding tunes fairly decently depending on brand. I had several nitros and a 5B SS converted to a T with an OBR 27.5 along with several mods as well...
Sold all those noise makers and now all I build is competition crawlers and scale rigs. Go fast machines are my EMaxx Brushless, OFNA DM-1 Spec E, AE SC10b, AE SC8.2e, DF-03Ra, TT-01E, and a Losi Mini8 converted on-road. I guess I went for power efficiency lol.

Niro is only being pushed to the side for 2 main reasons:
1. electric is easier to use, meaning all you need to do is charge the batteries and go. Nitro on the other had you have to tune it and worry about if you have enough tires and fuel. So electric is just easier to get into the hobby with.
2. tracks these days are designed mainly for electric and the foam tires don't grip up well. (where i live at least)
Nitro will one day become popular again when a new revolutionary engine comes out with much more horsepower, same as what happened with electric, the brushless and Lipo technology came along and electric just blew up. So give it a couple of years and nitro will be big again.

When you say foams don't grip up as well are you comparing treated rubber tyres to non-treated foams? My experience with rubber tyres on a nitro car at the old Wynnum track (at the Workers Club) was that they would overheat half way into a 5 minute heat making things really hard to drive.
This all said, my most enjoyable and most competitive racing was the old Friday night class at Brendale with the control HPI tyre and control side exhaust motor.
Thanks

Nitro needs a "fuel injection" motor for it to become popular. An engine you can grab and throw in a car and not have to worry about if the person who just bought it can figure out how to use it. I get that it comes with instructions but to set it properly for a lot of people to get it to run is hard. We had a nitro class for the first time in a few years run the other day and two people got super frustrated and left cause the car wouldn't stay running.
But on another note....We had a nitro class on a regular race weekend for the first time in a few years.....I was getting the slight itch.

People have to learn to read manuals, watch the provided DVD. It takes some time to learn the hobby and to do it. People these days have no time. Internet, gaming, hanging out with friends, other sports etc. are standard things a youngster is doing today. So the RC car must be dropped on the ground and being driven, when done, it must be picked up and thrown in the barn. All those things of finding a setup, the right tuning and even maintenance is to difficut and time spending....

No.... that is not the problem. Just an injection will not solve this iddue, it will become to expensive because you do need a self regulating motor management. And with all those sensors and electronics the chance of failures will be higher.

Nitro has been one of our more popular classes this year. Of course the guys that run nitro are the die hards...
Nitro is easy, just have to take it one step at a time. You just need to systematically work your way thru the car until it works correctly. Takes alittle more patience... but once you get it figured out its no more hassle the electric is. I rarely have to worry about temps, roll out, and if I have enough boost! Just make sure you got enough tire, and smoke is coming out the exhaust and you will be fine!
Besides, I normally finish in the top 4 spots in our mains because my car doesn't flame out... Its slow as heck, but it never flames out!
Shawn.

When I started racing last year in the summer of 2012 I started with nitro sedan. Over the winter I picked up a T4 to run on carpet and had a great time doing it. At first I thought it was cheaper because I only had to buy 1 set of tires per weekend and could've easily made a set last more than just 1 weekend. Then I started to see cars getting alot faster then mine and went out and bought a new ESC and the latest fastest motor, after buying 5-6 motors and 3 speedos not to mention parts and tires I could've bought 3 full 1/10 nitro sedans.
Electric is fun and mod tc is super fast but when it came to finding a setup while testing a new car or part, unless you had 5-6 batteries you can't get the feel for the car in 5 min. With nitro you bring it in fill up and go back out and can stay out 45min if needed.
Ill never talk bad about electric racing cause when I raced my first race this season my driving was drastically faster and smoother, electric is fast and super fun but I need the sound and smell of fuel burning
