Default Starter box

Dear rctech members,
Rookie here, i bought a used 1/8 kyosho nitro car and it's came with remote and also the starter box. After i unboxing the starter box there's a square box written 15A 125v or 250VAC. Quite confusing on it, is my starter box needed AC power to operate?

Anyone of u using 12dc to AC inverter to start up a starter box?
ANy comment is highly appreciated. tks.

I'd say it's a switched transformer supplying the 12V system for when there's no DC rails available at track.
