New 1:8 Body from PROTOform: the PFL128

Wouldn't a simple solution to appease the folks who don't care for the current crop of 1/8 bodies would be to rerelease some of your older bodies from the early 2000's (when styling wasn't so radical)? This way both bases would be covered. Parma does this,check out thier website,why can't you?

You got that right. At the Winternats I saw at least three different brand bodies that other than just a couple little details like the number of louvers over the fenders, were absolutely identical to one or another Protoform body. Even the shape of the excess below the cutline was the same. Either they are exact back pours or Dale is making them for them.

Well guys,
I ran this body this week at the Winternats. I was the only driver that tied it from what I know. We had a crazy week of weather and missed a lot of the Quals. I can tell you that this body is a good addition to the already good line of Protoform choices. For me this body was easier to drive than the 909. It is similar to the R18, with a little more traction all around. More steering, but also more rear bite. I actually tractioned rolled my car easier with this body than the R18 I usually use. I did a back to back test and decided to run the new body for the entire event. I was able to run the fastest lap of the event with this body 10.8 (new track record). For me I think this body will serve best on a lower bite track. I had to make set up changes to my car to take away traction in the rear, compared to my normal running of the R18.

Dale the body looks great, looks functional.
Looks realistic to me looks just like a 1/8th onroad race car.
Some must forget how much function and "ugly" the F1 cars looked back in 2008.
Great work keep up the development

Dale,
I was just informed that the first shipment should reach my distributor at the end of the month by air freight.
Will there be sufficient quantities available this year.
The PFR18 last year was a bit of a drag in that area

Body looks great.
I love the styling of the 1/8 race cars i would like too see these cars in real scale they would be scary fast and properly dangerous

I love the new looks. The PFR18 is awesome and I'm waiting to get this new thing into my hands.
If I could wish something more, I would love to have the pro-lite bodies just a little bit thicker. (just 0.1mm or something) The thinnest plastic that Blitz is using (0.8mm??) is the perfect thickness I think. This was a positive comment, I'm not starting to arque about it with anybody!!

I find it amusing that folks are willing to hurl criticism at Dale and the other body manufacturers for unrealistic looking bodies when the real culprit is the governing orginizations abandoning the realism requirement some years ago , we are getting what we asked for. I was at a slot race over the weekend and someone asked me about R/C and metioned that they were told they looked like giant LMP bodies which in slot terms are thingie-ized version of Peugeots , Mercs , Audi's etc - guess that's what we've sunk to.

IMO if you want realism get a Tamiya TAO2 and go race. Ive always heard friends who dont have RCs tell me that the bodies on the 1/8th cars are ugly. To me they look super cool, even better when they're going down the track.
If you look at the Audi R18 and the Toyota TS030, our bodies dont look that much different than them, except for the rear area. They are race cars, they're not supposed to look good, they're only supposed to go fast.

The first bodies were just sent out in recent days to the Winternationals in Florida - but the weather was not too great, so there was only one team driver that had a chance to try it out. DJ Apolero did manage a podium finish in the 1/8th IC Main with a PFL128 on his car, and that was encouraging.

I hear ya buddy - seriously. If I did this body-design thing for a hobby or some form of personal expression, I'd concentrate on the realism aspect. But the harsh reality is that I do this as an occupation. I'd simply go out of business because there are so few guys that think like us. Most rc racers like to actually "race". When the realistic cars are getting lapped a minute into a race by the guys using functional bodies, the realism enthusiasts eventually change to a more functional racebody or get frustrated and quit the hobby completely. Thus, the functional bodies outsell the realistic ones a hundred to one - I stay in business - and most people are happy.
