Thanks Squizzy for the reply.

I just would like to know whether an insert can be harder than the tyre compound, which I guess can defeat the purpose of the tyre being soft.

Example: hard tyre/hard insert, hard tyre/medium insert

which I guess is ok but:

medium tyre/hard insert

will it works?

Please help
