Hi guys,


Im about to buy a new kit and im switching brands (i own a Yokomo GT4W2L, its still competitive but im not on the spirit of supporting Yokomo on 200mm if they dont support us with new developments).

Now, down here in southamerica the "parts availability" its a problem with all brands so i have to decide over this kits (the ones with LESS problems on parts for buying overseas) :

- Kyosho VoneRRR
- Kyosho FW05RR
- HPI R40
- Serpent 710

The cheapest one for us down here its the R40, but i dont know anyone who is using it here and i dont know about parts quality and all of that ... people here are starting to buy Serpent 710's.

if people in ur area are buying serpent 710 and have good parts support for them,buy that.enough said

Buying order of your list is as follows:

1. Serpent 710 (if parts support is there)
2. Kyosho FW-05/VoneRRR (a tie on this one and if parts support is there)
3. HPI R40

If you were to expand on the list, I would throw the Mugen MTX3 and the Associated FT NTC3 in there as well.

My top choice is only between the V1RRR or the 710.
I will choose which one that have better/good parts support between them.

Ok guys lets see ... parts support DOES NOT EXIST LOCALLY so always we have to buy from USA.

On the "Yokomo prototype" side, im moving from Brazil to my country so the people that is carrying my stuff (TV, sofas, etc.) have all my CD's with RC material. As soon as they arrive here i will post the pics (6 weeks from now i think).

BTW, what is the problem with the R40 ?

There is nothing wrong with the R40 besided the weight of the car. The original stock kit is 65 to 100 grams heavier than most of the current competition cars and you have to buy a lot of after-market lightened parts to get the weight down (big investment). You can order from Japan or Hong Kong/Singapore the 2004-Spec that has all of the after-market goodies and a reasonable price. The parts quality is good but could be a bit better. The car is pretty durable but the front steering blocks can't take too many hard hits (I have the stock R40 kit, so I am speaking from experience). Good luck with whatever choice you make.

tabushi I was thinking the same thing. seems to be a good car
but has not taken off in the u.s. considering all the r40's i have seen seems to run really good.

The R40 is a nice car and it is fast. Biggest issue with the car as some have mentioned is weight, BUT only if you get the US version of the car which is by far the worst version. The Japanese version AKA R40 2004 edition is around the same weight as most of the newer cars (a little heavier than the RRR or 710). The 2004 edition is readily available from RC Champ in Japan (sponsor of this site) or any HK shop. You should pay only 300-330 USD for the kit which i feel is excellent value for money.

I just received email from 2 stores in Japan, the price of the R40 2004 edition its Y$ 45.000 and that is about US$ 430 ... still worth it ?. I think i will get some time to think about this ... obviously i should go with serpent cause a lot of people run it here but i lie to be different and try new things (when i started with Yokomo, i was and im still the only one with Yokomo around here).

Other options i think are VoneRRR or FW05RR ... Ofna CD3 would be a good choice, but the only thing i hate about ofna in onroad cars its having TOO MUCH NEW MODELS !!, right now they have a new 200mm chassis coming out !!

Well if the 2004 R40 is US$430!!! then scrap it.

The V one RRR is around $350-360 us and even $330 from Pro Shop- Futaba

The 710 is also around that price range and both of these cars weight around the 1600-1700 gram mark.

That price for the R40 is ridiculous dont pay that.

Dunno whats going on with those Japanese shops, but I did not pay anywhere near that.
