they are not needed and it frees up the dif . 300k without the shims feels like 100k with them.

Hey just a quick note, we are Looking for GT Racers.

The 2013 Great Lake challenge in Toledo, Ohio, hosted by the One Eighth Racers of Toledo is coming up Aug 23-25. If you are interested in racing registration is open now. You can register online at http://toledooneeighthracers.com/event_registration or grab the entry form from the website and mail it.

It is always a good time that draws ~115+ racers each year. Give it a thought. The GT class typically draws 20 or so guys, a good time with lots of competition.

Default Another RCShox Team car build!!

Goals of this build revolve around lightweight and efficiency.
Its nice when the factory updates the parts, the new servo saver assembly is now hard anodized! new one is on the left and dont forget to use blue loctite on the threads, it will back off if you dont.

When the Ballbearing ackerman bar is released (next week) you will need to modify the steering arms by grinding off the upper portion to make clearance for the turnbuckles. since you are only grinding off the upper portion you can still use it as normal, if for any reaason you want to go back to stock settings.
before:

After:

Here is the complete assembly with the new bar:

ON this pic you will notice a hole on the lower portion of the chassis brace, i drill the hole completely through the brace so that i can use a longer screw for less chance of stripping, the kit calls for a 12mm screw, i have a 15mm in it now. a 3/32 drill (.093") works perfect.

Next are the differentials but I am going to make a vid of the build, too muc information to type!

Marcus will that steering rack fit the gtv2e as well?
And will it eliminate the horrible slop in the stock unit?
My left front wheel has twice the play in it as the right

Yes it will fit but alot of the slop is also coming from shims that are needed in between the hex and the hub, I will address that when i get there on this build, stay tuned.

Got the F458 painted today! Very good looking body also and the decals are awesome , you end up with plenty left over for another car! Pre-order ends tonight, I will try and get the Maclaren painted by the weekend for testing on sunday.

Moving on to the next step which is the front gearbox assembly.
One of the things you wan t to make sure you do is not attach the center CVD too tight onto the housing the bearings need some wiggle room to compensate for the heat that is generated inside the box. Another note is that the factory now supplies the kits with 84mm shaft, they used to be 87mm but it would sometimes bind against the front of the transmission shaft.

you need to install 1 or 2 8x11x.2mm shims (Serpent part number 110432). you do not want it to be tight just take some space out.

This is probably the worst area for play and here is why. you have the hat bushings that go inside the C hub holder, with a normal SHCS the tolerance between the OD of the screw and the ID of the bushing is loose so when the screws are tight there is no slop but since they are screwed into plastic they can and will loosen up adn this exposes the slop! By using a FH head screw the taper centers the bushing with the screw and eliminates that play, You need 4mmX14 FH screws to do this. If i would have found 4x16 FH i would have done this to the arm bushings to but since I am using the aluminum holders and loctite they will stay tight and have a minimal amount of slop.

almost complete front end!

Something that i always do is use a light oil on all holes that are being threaded by the screws themselves, the screws are not self threading so your basically forcing the threads and that makes for weak threads. You will be more likely to strip the hole if it is dry. I actually try and tap most of the holes myself and that works even better.

I should have more pix and possibly a vid for the transmission tomorrow.
