Hi,

I noticed in the setup sheet that it shows the option of running the diffs with either 2 or 4 of the small gears. What's the difference for example if you have 2 diffs filled with 30,000cst fluid, and one diff has the 4 gears and the other with 2 gears?

Four gears would give more resistance, so only running two gears would be like running a lighter oil. People did this in the front diff of the HPI R40 back in its day...

I always run 2 diff crowns, diffs feel smoother, never had any strip, and some weight saving benefits.

You need to double the diff oil rating, ie..

30,000cst 4 crown = 60,000cst 2 crown

I like the feel of 4 gears. Also when you're dealing with thicker diff oils your choices of various weights becomes very limited above 100K. It's personal preference thing.

From my experience at our Toledo Track, Most all guys running sedan like the feel of 4 gears over 2, but like you said its all preference.

@ JJBinks: What tires are the Serpent guys running over at Toledo? (Brands/most popular compounds) I'm planning to put together a nitro program and this is one area I really don't know much about yet.

On a normal day I run 38 fronts and 40 rears. When traction gets high I go to 40 fronts and 42 rears. In some cases I've used 38 fronts and 42 rears (tons of steering).

+1 to that. In some rare cases in the past I have seen some sedans run 35 from 38 or 40 rears. but that is a rarity.

Besides Compound the tires I see the most run at our track are Enneti and Matrix. I plan to run Enneti for the most part.

I normally run Enneti fronts. Enneti's fronts are the only tires I've found that can be used with the narrow hex drives up front. All other tires rub on the steering knuckles arms .
