randman once you put the car on a purpose built track for nitro
cars you will be hooked. Its like running a modified electric with
out having to worry about bat. dumping. As for the thrill you
get a different satisfaction with gp as ep both is good just different. I'm actually putting my SD together I just have to
start learning how to solder again.

Well another desition to make ... WHICH ENGINE TO USE ? ...

Im tight on budget and i need a new engine for the preworlds ... right now im runing a Novamega SX12 RE EV1 engine and just have about 2 races and 5 practices ... but im planning to train hard for 3 complete weekends so im thinking on buyiong a new engine for the preworlds ... but looking on not spending too much money and getting a decent engine ... the track where the preworlds and worlds will be running at need a good torque engine cause it have a couple of up-hill sections (up and downhill curves and one uphill straight if i rmember right) ... im attaching here some links of track pictures (the track its on construction and maybe its ready for practice on the first week of february) ...

Now my alternatives are (this is based on my dealser cause here in southamerica we dont have access to EVERY engine brand, and rossis are too expensives in brazil so mainly i have access to the engines sold by my 2 dealer in Chile and Brazil - try to not mention other engines cause this are the only competition engine i have access to) :

1.- Novamega SX12 RE EV1 (same engine im running right now)

2.- Novamega SX12 RE EV1 TURBO (now IFMAR allow Turbo Engines but stays on 3 ports, this is not the 2003 "SS" one that michale salven used on his last european big race, its the prior model)

3.- OS .12 TR

4.- OS .12 TR Turbo

5.- Team Orion Wasp .12 Turbo

6.- Trinity XP-12 .12 Picco Turbo Touring Re Exhaust Slide

7.- HPI Nitro Star .12R XS Engine (the new nova-base-i-think engine from HPI)

8.- Trinity Sirio .12 Sandard Racing Engine SG Style Crank

9.- Trinity Nova Rossi Black Pixi .12 SG Rear Exhaust ROAR

10.- Trinity Nova Rossi .12 Slide Carb SG Shaft (NS1)



I think the IFMAR legals and good ones are the numbers :

- 6 (but i never owned a picco engine)

- 4 (i saw an OS .12 TR Turbo running and it went just up with the italians)

- 2 (i know the non turbo version and its great)

10.- Trinity Nova Rossi .12 Slide Carb SG Shaft (NS1)
^- trinity is now the distributor of novarossi, to clear things up for you. but they also distribute the "Rossi" brand (not to be confused with NOVArossi..). The "Rossi Black Pixi" is not under the novarossi brand. it is under the ROSSI brand.

The NS1 is the most potent out of the box. its also the highest end engine out of all you listed, and will last you significantly longer with best performance out of all your list. Go with the NS1. (Or NSR if you can find it.. just get it ordered from your LHS).

edit:

your choice 7 (HPI Nitro Star .12XS) is made by STS, who make the STS Dragon, etc.. look under the Exclusive Nitro Engine Zone..

Well if you are limited to those options, I'd go with number (10), which by the description you are giving is actually a Novarossi RS12S1, (not a NS1, it doesn't exist), and it seems to me that it is the exact description found in Tower Hobbies, check it out:

The other engines you described, except the Novamegas, are also basically Tower Hobbies offerings. I'd say your distributor works with Tower's line of engines, so go for the RS12S1.

Its the 1018- STS Dragon3 - 3-port engine turbo an IFMAR LEGAL engine ?, and its a good engine ?, i heard on some US forums and European forums that it keep up woth the best novarossis without problems and it cost just US$ 150 ...

tabushi if you are going with a nova based engine get the
ns3 version don't get the s1 because this version is two years
old.

Has anyone tried clay in their diff gear?

I just went to the local art store and picked up some eraser putty. Packed it down in the diff as much as I could, and it seems to work very well, the diff is very stiff, yet still works. I think it's a very good thing for .75 cents. Also there is no need to seal the diff with this stuff.
